removing tint?

I have had my tint on now for 5 months and I want to take it off. Can I do this? If so, how? or would it be better to take it back to the company and have them do it. They'll charge me about $50 for all five windows. What do you guys think?

thanks

You should let them do it for $50 since you wouldn't know how to do it for the rear window, you will rip the defrost lines off. BTW, why do you want to take it off?

I'm not really sure. When I am out and about I look at the cars that have tint, and those that do not. I really cannot make up my mind. Sometimes I like it, and other times I do not. Today at a gas station I was parked next to a black Mercedes without tint and it looked really sharp with out the tint. But then again, it was a Mercedes, those look sharp no matter what..haha

thanks for the info...

For 50 bucks, let them do it... trust me it is not fun.... You can get it off in one piece if it is good tint... but the glue underneath is the *****..... most of them use a prep solvent, goo gone and a brillo pad to remove the glue... so for 50 they will remove it and clean your windows... good deal.. go that route...well worth it in my mind..

Sounds like you just can't make up your mind, but since you've already done it and there's nothing wrong with it, you should just keep it. It will save your leather seats and keep your interior cooler on hot days. IMO, you should just save the $50.

Has a kit to remove Tint for $16 - I would say if it takes you 1 hour doing it that 1 hour = $30 so your labor is worth $30 and than add teh $16 Kit its $46.. With $50 u can have a pro do it and you no work..

$50 may seem like a lot for something that seems pretty straightforward, but you're actually paying for their experience. They've probably done it countless times, ensuring that they'll do it right the first time and not damage your windows, avoiding common mistakes a novice would otherwise make.

Your Acura does come with a green factory tint....I would say about 85%.
If your dealer is worth his beans, he will have also have a tint company on the payroll...some that uses LLumar, 3M or Solargard.

sides are easy (strip off by hand and then scrape with a razor), but the rear windshield is not easy at alland most shops won't guarantee that your defroster lines will continue to function properly after the tint is stripped. so if don't want to bother, have the shop do it. or maybe keep the tint so you don't do any harm to those lines.

stampsosu and tint

stampsosu,

I had three nice cars including the 03' TL's. I haven't put tint on none of my cars...I'm not really a tint man myself. But I'm considering putting a light tint on the Acura.

My personal opinion, try to coordinate the tint with the car (ex. if you have a the burgundy Acura with parchment interior a light mohagany would look nice and if have dark color car with the ebony interior a 35% black percent tint will look nice). Try not to get to exclusive using mirror tints and mixiing different shades of tint on the car.

This is just my personal opinion!

Good info...Makes sense since the legal front window tint for CA is 70%.

Maybe that's why I was a little bit suprised that my tint was darker than what I chose in the tint shop floor room.

Oooooo....my dealer lied to me !!!
He said Florida law requires manufacturer tint to be no less than 73%...and to meet Federal standards, the tint is about 80%+
I added a 73% tint to my car. Now it looks like a 50%.
No wonder I can't see out the back properly.

He lied to you on both counts. But what strikes me odd is that 50% is too dark for you? I wish I could go even darker!

CURRENT FLORIDA WINDOW TINTING LAWS

PASSENGER CARS:

Dr. & Pass. doors: 28% VLT
Rear Sides: 15% VLT
Rear Window: 15% VLT

TRUCKS, VANS & SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES:

Dr. & Pass. Doors: 28% VLT
Rear Sides: 6% VLT
Rear Window : 6% VLT (R&L side mirrors required.)

WINDSHIELDS:

To "AS1" mark on windshields.
Tinting of the entire windshield with any film is illegal under Federal law.

The fine for illegal window film in Florida is $43.00 per offense.

Althought I am not a speed demon, my average crusing speed on the freeway is 75-80 mph. About 1/3 of the unmarked cars the Highway Patrol in my area uses are seized vehicles.
The only way to spot one coming up behind you is to look for the little box strobe in front of their reaview mirror. At or after dusk, with a 50% tint, all I can basically see is a silhoutte of the car behind me. I can no longer see into the car.

I know what you mean about trying to spot for unmarked cars...i try to do it all the time...but hypothetically if you WERE speeding...by the time you've identified the car comming behind you was a cop, then it would of been too late anyways.

Not really. Unless they use radar, they have to be within a certain range, AND also have to hold their speed constant (to match yours) for 5-10 seconds to be admissible in court.

Well...living in northern CA my radar detector seems to be useless. I got nailed going 87 in a 65 at night where all the other cars were going 80+. The only difference was that I was stupid and wanted to leave the pack to get me some breathing room. Next thing I know the second I got in front...BAM...cherries. Boy was I embarrased that night. All the other peeps must of been snikering.
