Remove side mirror, do I need to take the door panel off too?

I'm trying to replace my side mirror assembly on the passenger side. I can get the mirror off fine, but I can't see where to unhook the wire going to the mirror either in the mirror or where it goes into the door panel. Do I have to take the door panel off to unhook it?

I can't get enough slack to pull it away from the door enough to see inside the mirror and maybe pull it out from there.

Are you talking
1) (Heater) wires going from the mirror glass to the mirror assembly, or
2) Wires going from mirror assembly to inside the car?

If #1, you disconnect the wires from the back of the glass. Might be a little tough, but the connectors on the wire slide into the terminals on the back of the glass.

Actually, how do you remove the driver side mirror glass? My heating element does not work and I want to see if it a connector or element issue.

Thanks!
