Remove/Installing Shift Knob 2002 Type S

Can someone give me some info on removing the factory Shift knob on my 2002 Type S, I can't seem to figure it out. I bought an aftermarket shift knob, but can get the stock on off.

Much appreciated.

you basically spin the stock knob COUNTERCLOCKWISE to get it off...CLOCKWISE to get it on. i think manual knobs do not work because the stem is too thin...you will need knobs that use nylon sleeves for the right fit! what is better than trying to wrench the heck out of your wrist...grab the knob tightly like kung fu gripwise, keep wrist locked and turn your fore arm like a wrench.

I tried twisting it counterclockwise, but it's pretty tight, I don't want to push it too much. Is there a screw that holds it in there? or is it really just screwed in with no hex nut?

Thanks,

It's really that tight. Just make sure you don't bend the shifter arm when you're turning the knob.

Remember lefty loosey.

is it true that manual knobs won't fit the shifter? I could have sworn that somebody had a Momo on their TL.
