Remote Intermittent?

Wifey has a 99 TL and had a strange problem today with the door lock remote. It all of a sudden stopped working (no little red light when you push any buttons). I thought this might be a low battery issue... and then it started working again. When I look at the fob I see no easy access for a battery. Do you need to split the fob open to get at the battery?
