Remote car starter?

Hello, does anyone know where to get a remote car starter for the TL-S? How much do these things cost anyway and are they reliable?

Any alarm shop should be able to do it for you. I think Directed Electronics Inc. (DEI aka Viper) is one of the most popular.

I had one in my Vigor for years and it worked flawlessly. I do miss it during the winters.

I wasn't going to put in in my TL, but I'm reconsidering.

Mine cost around $250 installed several years ago. Keep in mind that's without the alarm. They just integrated it with the factory system. Some of them have features like auto locking doors.

Mine would lock the doors when I started the car and unlock when I shut the car off. Since the Vigor had a cable trunk release instead of the power one, I didn't have a remote trunk release.

It may run a little more for the TL, 'cause they have to integrate it with the immobilizer. You'll also have to get a spare key from the dealer. I have read a few posts where people have just gotten a blank (uncut) key which just has the chip in it for your car. They end up hiding it under your dash somewhere so that the remote starter will work.

The cost starts going up once you include an alarm or features that allow you to remotely open and close windows.

Shop around and make sure that they're familiar with your car and the immobilizer. I've also read where some shops end up bypassing the immobilizer system by wiring it in such a way that anytime you start your car, the ignition will look at the "blank" key. By doing this, it allows for anyone who pops your ignition to start the car. The proper way is to have the ignition only look at the blank when the remote starter is activated.

Good luck!

NCStatesman.....

Good to see another fellow Raleigh TLer. You asked a good question at a good time: I'm having my alarm system / remote starter installed this Saturday by Jay Lovelace of Creative Acoustics. I'm having him do it for me at his personal address, so he'll charge me less for installation....I've done business with him exclusively for years. I'd recommend Jay to do any kind of electrical/audio/security work for you while you own your TL.

You can call Creative Acoustics at 829-1875, and ask for Jay. He's usually extremely busy, so be patient: his work is well worth the wait. The shop is located at the corner of Atlantic Ave. and Hodges St., so it should not be far from you at all.

Also: you WILL need a spare programmed key, as most alarms/remote starters use this to get around the immobilizer.

Hey, thank you all for the info - I'm looking to get this later on donw the road.

Anways, I'm going to pick up my new TL-S Satin Silver w/out the Nav this afternoon - CAN't Wait!! Also, I added a trunk spolier/wing atthe dealer - I know I got ripped on it (732 installed), but what the heck, finananced over several years that's only e few extra bucks a month. I paid 31316 with taxes, tag, tile & doc, etc, then added 732 for the trunk wing.

No sure if I want to add the matching dark wood AC/Vent trim and/or speedo wood trim too

Thanks!

Hey Ken,

Thanks forthe contact info - I'll give them a call later on this year -no rush to install remote starter - but definitely wanted before next summer (or at least next winter) rolls around!

NCStatesman,

Which dealership are you getting your TL-S from? The one in Chapel Hill or the one in Cary? I'm planning to purchase a TL fairly soon.

Wow so many central NC people all of the sudden.

Mr Polo: contact Glenn Gottfried at Autopark Honda in Cary @ 467-4747. He may be able to get you a TL at significantly higher savings than at the actual Acura dealer. I saved quite a bit by going through him over a year ago.

He may not be able to help you, but he is one of those gems of a saleman, rare in the fact that he's willing to go the extra mile for his customers: he's worth a call.

Good luck!
