Relective Paint Option

I am planning on blacking out my headlights within the next few weeks and was having some ideas on what to do with the reflector area. I can't afford the clear reflectors but also don't want to leave the reflector area unpainted (which I heard you are supposed to do). I was thinking it over and came up with the idea to paint the actual reflector black and use a clear reflective paint over top of it. It would have the look of being blacked out but also keep its reflective properties. I just wanted to air this idea to see if any of you who have actually taken your headlights apart thought it would work. (I'm not sure if the reflector area has to be transparent). Any input would be appreciated.

I was talking about reflective paint, not chrome paint, but no, the chrome paints I have tried suck. They look more silverish and you can't wet-sand them or they will get dull, even after buffing.

i think if u just paint it black it would turn out black...maybe a black tape, or if you do a light coat of black, but i dont think it would keep its reflective properties after painting it.

but even if u cant get it reflective, the piece doesnt really matter so u can always just have it black

It would keep its reflective properties if I sprayed it with reflective paint after the black.
