Redline Trans oil

Does anyone use Redline oil for their trans, in TLS? If so, what kind do you use. i.e. Dexron II or Mercon..

Thanks

Thumbs down

Oooh you're treading on thin ice there!

On the newer Honda/Acuras, Honda ATF-Z1 is specified. The frictional properties are different between ATF-Z1 and Dexron/Mercon and so if you use non-ATF-Z1 fluid, you may get torque convertor shudder and/or hard shifts. We all know how fragile these trannies are, I would recommend against the use of non-ATF-Z1 fluid in your car.

FWIW I've used Redline D4 in my GM cars and C+ in my Dodge cars and never had a problem; it's good trans fluid in the right application.

But yea i wouldnt use any thing other than honda fluid in the tranny (other than 1 of the 2 listed above)

You're right about Amsoil, they recently "certified" their universal ATF to be ATF-Z1 compatible; Amsoil is currently the only non-Honda fluid to declare this compatibility (that I know of).

Again, FWIW I've always been leary of these "universal" ATFs. How can one fluid meet the frictional and viscosity requirements of so many types of transmissions? Do you want to go through the hassle of trying to get a replacement tranny if your properly functioning tranny suddenly starts going south after a fluid change with "compatible" fluid.

When I had my Dodge Intrepid, I would surf the Intrepid message boards and I would read so many accounts of how people's trannies started having trouble after Dexron ATF was put in.

You may or may not have a problem if you try one of these other ATFs but I know I wouldn't take a chance.

I swear by redline, I`ve used it for every oil change that my TLs has received, But!
I use Honda ATF, I change it every 15,000 miles.
