MY rearview mirror broke, butnot totally it is hanging there limp.....I was wondering what kind of options i had to fix it besides just going to the dealer because they quoted me $120....any suggestions will be welcomed



when i say broken in my case the mirror itself is fine, but it won't sit perpendicular with the floor of the car it just faces down so it isn't functional, but the dimming and all works just doesn't sit right

 

crazy glue??

 

Try some strong glue they some clear strong kind that will work with plastic and glass. Just go to the local Home Depot or Hardware store.

you cant use crazy glue. did it break from alot of bass in the car? mine did. all mirrors pivot on a ball joint. our mirrors are connected to that joint with a female like socket and there is an o ring made of metal(that is what it feels like) that fits in this order:

(oring) -O )--||

the back of the female socket has teeth, sort of, that the o-ring snaps into and provides that tight fit. on my mirror, a tooth of that female socket broke. the o-ring was simply hanging there on the ball side. i pushed it back on and it kind of snapped back in place, but every once in awhile, it falls back off and i have to snap it back in place.

see if that is the problem. you have have to replace the mirror if it wont snap back on.

 

Dont they have special glue for rear view mirrors? I think I've seen them at Auto Barn and Pep Boys.. check it out, u'll be surprised!!

 

systek you're right on the money and how you described it and it won't snap back, the ring is just broken off and i think it is from my bass...i am lookin for some kind of putty or molding clay to fix it with...thanx for your help

Can't you take it to a place that does windshields and have them glue it on for you?!

 

i don't think you can fix it other than replacing the whole thing, the part that got broke off is belong to the housen, i know cuz it happen to me. I had the dealer replace it under warrantee. and i don't think that cause by "bass" unless the acura OE Sub is strong enough to cause it!!

 

have u taken the time to think that maybe he has an aftermarket system? i broke mine with bass..150.3 dbs was the most i hit at a comp w/2 15's!

i also managed to break the plastic windshield mount to my bel radar detector... :wow:

how is that for bass in ur fass

 

You may be able to contact Magna Donnelley (manufacturer of mirror) to obtain a replacement at no charge. My rearview started to leak that electrochromatic fluid internally, causing the day/nighttime view to look real fuzzy. I called the manufacturer and they sent me a new one for free. If you go to their website you can locate their contact information. Good luck.

 

Take it back to the dealer mine broke and they replaced it with a new one.

 

thanx for all your help...i ended up goin to the dealer to get it replaces...i dropped 120...what a waste of money...and Yes, I have an AFTERMARKET SYSTEM!
