Rear Passenger Side Door Lock Fail

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. My rear passenger door lock is acting up.

If I try to lock/unlock the car from inside via the lock switch, it works only sometimes.

If I try to do the same with the remote from outside, it almost never works.

All the other door locks work fine, and I only noticed this because I stopped hearing confirmation lock *beep* when locking via the remote. That beep will happen when I manually lock the door, and then try again.

Anyone know what it could be? It seems to be a problem inside of the door lock, as all of the other doors work fine.

Estimate repair cost?

The switch vs key fob is just chance that it works/does not - its in your head.
same powers going to the door switch vs fob.

Prob the motor actuator mechanism components shot.
maybe wire damaged to the motor?
Take off the door panel to get to the thing.

budget fix is to lock it and disconnect the motor so it doesnt unlock with the car anymore and only unlock it manually.
i think theres a sensor switch that tells the car if its unlocked or not and with the door no longer unlocking it will stay locked - get the idea

I agree that any difference (keyfob vs switch) is your imagination, but I do have a similar problem. Mine only happens when it gets cold out. Basically in the winter I have to manually check both back doors to make sure they are locked. I took the passenger side rear door apart and put some white lithium grease (iirc) on all of the relevant parts back there. It seems to have improved that side and I don't think the problem has happened since. Now that my experiment seems to have worked, I need to do the driver's side as well.

If this solves your problem, the estimated repair cost is $5 and an hour of time because it's kind of a pain getting it apart and putting it back together right.

with the others.

Take your door panel off, and take the lock/latch mechanism out. This recently happened to mine. It may be rusted up. I took mine off, sprayed Seafoam Deep Creep (any penetrating oil will work) and work it on the metal pieces (if rusting up you will see them) and get it to operate smoothly. Then grease them up and install.
