Rear deck rattle

I am amazed that a car with less than 4K miles on it would begin to rattle. The dealer is fixing it right now. Anyone else with an 03 have this problem?

YES,
I do....but I can not identify it.....

I even went so far as to lay in the trunk while someone drove me around. Best i can figure is seat belt assmbly on the rear deck.

Please post what you found the issue to be.
Thanks,
T

What is the rear deck??? I think I may have the same problem as you. Whenever I go over a bump, I hear an annoying rattling coming from the rear of the vehicle. I have complained about 5 times about it, stating that I believe it's the trunk to be loose, but they always find "No fault in it".

Where is the rear deck located? If it's anywhere near the trunk, i will suggest them to take a look.

thanks

I occasionally hear some sort of rattle coming from the right side of the rear deck ONLY when my driver's side window is down when driving. Weird...

I have the rattle in my 03 as well. I have tried to tune it out...no time to deal with it - I've learned to ignore it. It makes my BF crazy though!!!!

Yeah I know there is some rattleig from the rear of my car but dont know where... and maybe ur right.. it could be the rear deck.

The Rear Deck I believe is where the entire area where the subwoofer grill is located. That entire flat surface above the head rests for the bakc seats and below the back window.

My rear deck rattle turned out to be my Navi computer lose, and moving around. Some insulation tape, and loctite fixed it.

If 4k miles amazes you, then you'll need to call EMS when I tell you my TL had a rattle at just 300 miles that required the rear window glass to be removed and reinstalled to fix. Evidentally the window sealant did not adhere all around the window and caused horrible creaking. That was just the start of the numerous rattles my TL has had. I wont bother to list them all because most of the people on this site have had some or all of the "known" ones. I just recently started to hear a new rattle from the back of my car but have not had the time yet to look into it. I think it might be either the right rear seat belt mechanism or something under the fabric covered panel to the side of the rear window. Its always something my my TL. The worst car, in terms overall integrity, I've ever owned. Oh and the reason I havent had time to research the latest rattle - because my TL is at the dealer right now become the SRS light has come on. Do a search on this site and you'll see its another popular problem with the car. Typical cause is either a sensor under the passenger seat cushion or in the driver's seat buckle. I cant wait to toss my TL possibly later this year and get something else. I own my TL (not lease) and the depreciation hit is huge now with the TL (not surprising actually). But my replacement car wont be another Acura. And the name "Acura" is suppose to conjure up an image of quality! :p

Yah I mean the TL definitely is not well built in terms of fit and finish. I mean the fact is, I have some rattles when I go over bumps, and I would expect more of a drum sound out of this car, but the simple fix for this is listening to music when I drive.

I just crank up the radio, and the car now sounds silent :P

All in all, I love the car, but one day I will take it to Acura and tell them to keep the car for a week or so, and fix every single rattle, or atleast cure a handful of them, to make the car sound virtually silent.

Just went to pick up the car from the dealer and there are scratches all over the trunk. This is a black car and was clean when I brought it in. The car is still there and they gave me a TSX loaner.

They said the rattle was the rear deck spacing to the rear window and they tightened it up and applied sealer tape. I have not driven the car to check yet.

Not a good start with my dealer!

yeah, i have a 99 TL and my rear deck used to make sounds all the time. then i just had one of those neck pillows that is shaped like a U and put it on top of the right rear indentation that is right of the stock sub. it has worked for me since i am out of warrenty. it is a heavy pillow since it is bean filled.

That blows that your trunk got all scratched up. Most Acura dealers wash the car for you as a complimentary jesture when you bring it in for service. I am always a little leary about the freebie wash for the very reason that you've experienced, but fortunately my car is WDP and in that color you can practically wash it with a rake and not see any scratches.

So, the dealership calls me and tells me the scratch is fixed. I asked the service advisor if he checked out the car personally and he said yes. I get there and the car is detailed and the scratch is still there. Now, they have to paint the trunk. I guess my questions is, will this affect me when I return the car off its lease? This is unbelievable!

Nah, as long as the repaint is done right I wouldnt worry about it. The main thing is to watch out for paint overspray which would likely be the only telltale sign that the trunklid was resprayed. It would show up, if at all, at the crack between the trunklid and fenders when the trunk is opened.

bassplayer u got ur car back yet? any rattles?

I spent all day taking the whole interior off from the back of my car. (Rear seats, entire rear shelf) I even put lil rubber spacers maybe that would lessen the noise.. but its still all there. I will try more thing tomorrow after work...

No, the rattle is still there. I will be calling the service manager at Stevens Creek tomorrow morning to let him know. They will deal with it in 3K miles during the next oil change. Not very happy that they had my car for 3 days and all I got was a nice scratch on the trunk, which they fixed, and an oil change.

would you believe that there is a rattle in the glove box area now. it may be coincidence, but the car was in better shape prior to taking it to the dealer...

anyone know of a list of common rattles and causes for our cars?

thanks..

yes...anything and everything that has the potential to rattle...will rattle!!!

I must say that our cars are quite horrific when it comes to covering up rattles...they're everywhere. They're like hives...once you get them, you get them all over.

Yeah, I have that one too. If you shove 3 quarters in the space alongside the glovebox door and the dash the noise will go away. I haven't had time to look into whats causing it so thats been my fix for now. I think the noise is caused by the two sides of the gloveox door. If you take the door off, you will see that the outer face of the glovebox door is screwed together to the inner side. If you take them apart and put some felf in between them and then screw it all back together, it might do the trick. My last car made the same noise and that was the fix for it back then. The TL is an endless array of rattles.

Thanks. Being under warranty and only having 4K miles, I am going to make the dealer make the car perfect. I will suggest your theory to them though. It sounds logical. Thanks again...

I fixed my rattle yesterday. Believe it or not it came from the trunk. But anyway if you open your trunk, there are two big rubber stops on each side of the trunk. Turn them counter-clockwise until the stops touches the frame. Wallaaaaa..

Im happy now.

Can you clarify that some more.... Where specifically are the rubber stops? You are not talking about the two at the edge of the trunk that adjust the closing height of the trunk lid are you?
