Post Rear bumper discoloration?

I have a '01 WDP TL & the rear bumper color seems to be off. I have heard that the paint sticks to the bumpers material differently than to metal. With this being said I wouldn't expect it to be an exact match, but the difference just seems too noticable. I've noticed on other makes, especially the Nissan Maxima, that this hold true as well. Discoloration seems to be most noticable on WDP-type colors. 1) Is this normal? 2) I want to put a body kit on, but am worried it might make the color problem stand out even more. What do all of you think?

According to a good friend of mine in the paint business (fixed my TL) the color is even slightly off on the factory painted models. It has to do with different materials, i.e., plastic bumber, metal fender.

If the color is obviously a mismatch (compare it tyo your front bumper)I would suggest you take the car back to the dealer. I just had my rear bumper repainted and buffed at no charge because I was not satisfied.

My TL has the same problem. There was a member a while back that brought the car back to the dealer and got the bumpers (F and R) repainted to match the body under warrantee. My car is due in the dealership for it's 30k maintainence soon, and I'm planning to bring this problem up to see what they say.

It's called Paint Fallout. It happens. I found out the painful way. My new factory kit didn't match my car paint.

That is a problem with the WDP. When I got rear-ended it took them 3 times and 2 shops to get it close. As for off the show room floor, my body shop does all the work for a local Acura dealer and he said that Acura has sent them cars that haven't even been sold yet to have the bumpers repainted. Anyhow, talk to your salesperson and tell them that you are not happy with the color difference and have them repaint it. Tell them something like you plan to enter your car into some shows and the difference is unacceptable or something.

Good luck

My 2000 WDP exhibits this at times as well. It looks to be an exact match from some angles.. other times it looks a little more brownish or something. I think it's just a matter of how the bumper paint reflects light.

Mine has same problem. I took it to South Coast acura in Costa Mesa, CA. They have been great on all the jobs so far. According to the service manager, it's normal that all the WDP TL bumper color discoloration. Any of you got repainted under warranty?

I have a NBP TL and I have had my bumper repainted under warranty.
I suggest you find another TL in the dealer lot and compare; then take the service advisor over to both cars and they should fix it for you.
