rear brake question
Hi guys,
I bought my 2000 tl from a car lot about 3K miles ago (currently 62K miles on car). Before I bought the car, I noticed surface rust on both front and back rotors. No big deal I thought, it will come off. Now, post purchase, while washing the car, the front rotors are clean, but the back still have rust on them, about half as much as it did though. I drove around hit the brakes and parked. I can feel the rears heat up, and I dont have any braking issues or dash lights. I'm just wondering, is this something to be concerened about? The rear rotors feel smooth, just a bit rusty. Am I missing perhaps better braking performance because my rear pads are not making good contact?
Thanks for your input.
Jason

Rotors showing surface rust is fine. However, if you drive the car, the brakes should turn back to a shiny / silver color. If they remain totally rusted, that might be a sign of a caliper problem. How long did you drive the car for when you noticed it being "half as rusted" ?
BTW, water speeds up the oxidation process (ie appearance of rust) on rotors.
