Really persistent scuff marks...

I have these tennis shoe scuff marks on my running boards from people kicking them when they get in and out. I've tried just about everything I can think of (including stuff suggested in other posts). Obviously, this includes waxing and polishing, Goo Gone, and automative paint cleaner solutions. I'm hesitant to use anything harsher because it is a painted surface and that area is clearly visible when the door is closed. (I'm also sure that the marks are rubber, *prene, or whatever above the surface of the paint...they're not scratches...I've checked with a magnifying glass to make sure I wasn't going crazy.) Any ideas on what to use? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

At pep boys there is this orange cleaner that works awesome. I had that from my work shoe and I tried everything! Nothing worked. I picked the stuff up because it was new and on sale. I figured it would get some of the summer bugs off. Tired a little on the scuffs and they came right off with a towel. As soon as I get the name I'll post it. But for now, go try an automotive store and get the orange cleaner thingy.

Clay it!! I clayed black scuff marks off my running boards. It works better than anything I have tried. i.e Tar remover, wax removers, adhesive remover. No of it worked. Claying worked really well.

Thanks a lot, guys. I'll try some of that tomorrow (assuming we don't get the torrential downpour that's scheduled to hit tomorrow morning, you never know) and let you know how it goes.

I just tried the Simple Green on the black scuff marks along my driver's door sill. With a bit of work, it takes some of it off. I hope the organge stuff does a better, easier job. Black scuffs on pearl white is a real pain.

something simple

take a hair dryer to it on the warm setting - to heat it up then spray some cleaner (simple green or what have you) and it should come off easy.
