Re-learn my way of driving

Hi all,
I'm a new owner of '03 TL3.2, and somebody suggested I disconnect the battery to let the car re-learn the way of my driving. Is it necessary and what is it the right way to do it? Appreciate your input.

Usually people disconnect the battery for it to "relearn" only if they mod their car like intake or something like that...

correct me if i'm wrong guys.

it won't hurt to do what you are suggesting. disconnect your battery for an hour and that will reset the ECU. then go for a sprited run and the ECU will compensate for change in your driving style and actually make your car a tad bit quicker than if your granny was driving it.

I guess he's more of a "right now" kind of guy.

So would it be a good idea to reset my ECU? I have a 2003 TL and I bought it used and I've been driving it for about a year now.

Before you disconnect anything make sure you have the radio security code and the navi code available (if you have navi). Also, be prepared for the radio code NOT to work if the radio's been replaced -- and to have to take a trip to the dealer to have them install the proper code.

It may be easier to just let your car adapt to your style over time than to invite potential problems. I recently had a fuse go out and pulled the radio fuse by mistake. Even though I'm the original owner I had to take my car to the dealer so that they could "pull the antenna" before installing my radio code. The service was free -- but it cost me three days of no radio before I could get to the dealer.

Good luck either way,

Vincent
