You are probably referring to the notorious dash board rattle. It is directly in front of the steering wheel, but under the dashboard. A guy on this forum put up a DIY on how to fix that problem. The culprit appears to be a cluster of wires, which rub against some metal piece that eventually starts squeaking. All you must do is cover all those wires with electrical tape, and voila!!! Sound is gone indefinitely.

Hope this helped...use the search to find the dashboard problem...search up "dashboard rattle"

Later.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same rattle, here is what I am experiencing...

Behind the dash, somewhere between the right hand side of the dash and the center of the car, I get an intermittent rattling... Sometimes it doesn't happen at all...but it seems that once it gets started, you can't get it to stop...

It doesn't necessarily happen when I go over extremely rough or uneven roads... In fact, most of the time I go over extremely rough roads, I don't hear it at all... Most of the time, it happens when I am going at speeds of 30-45 (but also at freeway speeds) when I am going on normal roads with a slight bit of vibration (in fact, I wouldn't even think that there was any vibration going on at all if I didn't hear that d*mn rattle)...

When I have passengers in the car, I feel the need to turn up the radio to stop my car from sounding like a cheap, poorly built car!!! It's supposed to be a luxury car for heavens sake...

Well, that describes my problem...

I have the same problem when I am completely at stop position.
However, the rattle goes away when I hold the steering wheel hard.

Sounds like your steering rack is causing a problem. Same thing was happening on my other car.

Yowsa! Thanks dordal! This sounds like it could solve my issue... I will have to earmark some "quality time" to do this (which is hard to come by with kids)...

I will report back on my result... BTW, now that you have had this "fix" in place for a while, has it returned, or did it squash this issue for good?

Edit: Also, what exactly did you use? You mention "automotive insulation", but I am not sure what that is... Is it foam tape, with adhesive on one side? Or is it just loose foam pieces that you wedge in between the plastic and harness? The visible wiring harnesses in the picture look like they are wrapped in gray foam tape...did you do this, or was that "stock"? And are these the offending harnesses, or are they the ones in the back that are in the black plastic wire wrap?

Thanks again...this looks to be exactly what I am looking for!

It fixed the issue for good, but the TL has plenty of other rattles that pop up here and there. I've solved some of them, but not all. Me thinks the Acura engineers need to take a trip to Germany and talk to the BMW people....

I used automotive/marine grade weatherstripping. Available at your local hardware store.

The harnesses with the green plugs are wrapped in gray tape; that is stock and they aren't the problem. The culprits are the ones wrapped in black where the arrows point. That's where you have to stuff the foam/weatherstripping in.

One more tip: try not to remove the dash bezel too many times. I did, and the clips start to wear out, which introduced a new rattle, near the air vent. I had to stick some foam in between the top of the dash and the dash bezel to stop that one, which introduced a small (1/8 inch) gap. It doesn't really bother me, but I wish I'd been more careful. Then again, I must have taken the dash off twenty times while originally troubleshooting this problem.
