Random engine rev?? What's the cause?
so I'm driving on PCH the on the 4th going maybe 40-50 miles, then all of a sudden, i noticed a random engine rev... its fluctuating between 1500-3000RPM for a few times, up and down and up and down... it's shouldn't be because of the tranny cuz i'm pretty sure its in 4th... so i'm wondering what that problem is?? I've had the same problem in my 95 Accord V6 before, i was on the 405 and was going downhill at about 70-75 miles and there it was the engine started reving randomly outta the blue! I brought my accord into the dealer and have them check it out but they didn't find anything since it only happens once in a while. does anyone know what the problem could be?? my tl only has less than 2000 miles on it and it kinda worries me. could it be bad gas? i've only used chevron 92 on it so far.

It is the grade logic incoporated into the SS. Anytime, it feels it isn't getting enough gas...it will shift up...lowering the rpms...and then when you give it gas again...and it's not moving..the system downshifts...and you start revving higher....It's a little weird..you'll get used to it.

Mine was doing that but at idle. Revving from 1k to 3k the same way you are explaining. They replaced the idler controller. The problem is gone. Just take it to the dealer. The Rep. told me that this was happening to a lot of TL’s. He didn’t specified if it was at any time or just at idle.

It is not the grade logic - that only works when the sensor detects a grade or hill that exceeds a certain number of degrees angle.
It isn't the IAC either - that doesn't apply when the car is moving.
Sounds like a sensor problem. a;though perhaps the lockup in the torque converter - get it to the dealer.

Sounds very much like what mine was doing which by the way is now in the shop for repairs. It might need a new tranny but don't know yet -- hopefully it's just a speed sensor problem. Check out my post titled "Type S...Should be Type P.O.S."
Mine did that same sort of thing as what you described every so often becoming more and more frequent until it finally became immobile.

My 1994 Integra LS does the same thing. I'll be driving, and out of the cuts the engine downshifts and revs up. It is really irritating. I have no idea what the problem is. Well, at least my TL doesnt have that problem. (knock on wood - particle board in my case).

like i said.. it happened to my accord before too... but i never had a chance to find out what it was cuz the car was stolen a month after i had that problem =*(
sounds like a honda tranny thing *shrug*... but yeah when i get my first oil change i'll let them know... however i don't want them to just start taking things apart and stuff... any advices?

Don't worry, I doubt they'll start pulling things off and just randomly poking around. It seems that if the problem is still intermittent, they'll just run a computer diagnostic check on it. When a car is still under warranty, they don't want to do anymore work then they have to. But I'd report it to them anyway.
