radio pop

Ltely my speakers have been suddenly making this "pop" noise. It seems to be random, and doesn't matter if it's the radio, cd, or tape. what could this be?

If it's when you touch/turn the volume knob or any other knob it's probably just a dirty pot. If it just happens out of the blue then there is probably a bad ground or something is shorting out (arching) inside the one of the units.

Or it could be a capacitor going south by dumping it's load into the stream.

Ford's are know for the volume pot going bad. The "popping" is where it starts. Most factory decks with volume knobs make some type of noise after a few years. It is more appearant in amplified systems. My factory TL deck makes a pop noise also. And the volume fluctuates if the pot is in between notches.

Time for a double din screen!

I know we're not talking about Fords. I was just making a reference.

It happened with my stock sub, It sounded as if it was gonna blow up. I pulled over and found there was some loose wires, and a wire was touching the body of the car causing my lights and everything to abruptly stop working.

A "pot" is short for POTENTIOMETER. It's a variable resistor. In your car it's a volume knob. In your house it's a dimmer switch or heater knob. It's the speed setting on your vibrator.

From your explaination it does sound like a loose or grounding audio wire. I'd take your rig into an audio shop. A "good" audio shop.

You could probably have your Avic D2 fixed for under $100. Even if it costs you $300 bucks it's well less than you would have spent for a new one.

Funny...

Pull the volume knob off carefully. Don't use a tool. Use your fingers.

Spray the "fuzzy" parts off with compressed air. Like you would use on a computer keyboard. Be thourough. This should be sufficient.

To clean it "properly" you would have to take the whole deck apart.
