Radar Detectors - where to buy in NYC?

Originally I wanted to know what brand and model radar detectors do you guys recommend? That was before I did a search and now I am busy reading. My question now though is where in NYC is a good place to buy one, with reasonable prices? Thanks in advance.

I don't live in NYC. So i can't tell you a good place to buy one. But, you can't go wrong with one of these: Passport 8500 or BEL 980 radar. I bought them on eBay. Work great.

Valentine One's are sold exclusively thorough Mike Valentine.

Passports can be bought directly from Escort, but you're paying retail. I've also seen Passports in stores, but again you're paying full price.

I've seen both the V1 and 8500 (brand new) on Ebay for much less.

I have a V1, and once you use it, you will wonder how you lived without it... gives you much more feedback than anything else and the sensitivity is awesome.

I have the Passport 8500. Bought it off the Escort site. Don't really know what the difference is between V1 and the P8500 as far as detection, V1 is $100 more. My father borrowed it and went to Canada, the P8500 went off 6 times and it saved him 6 times.

I highly recommend it.

and I'm in NYC

i have a passport and its good but if i was gonna buy another one.......id definitly buy the valentine one because it gives u a rough idea what direction the radar is coming from ......but its only gonna save u if ur at a speed where ur gonna be able to slow down fast enough to blend in with traffic b4 he see's you .........and if hes using a lazer type gun or is just pacing you with his car well better know someone on the job or get a good lawyer...... drive safe and keep out of trouble people.

I agree...and if I was to do it all over again I doubt I'd pay full retail. Just make sure you have the latest 1.8 version if you do decide to go with the Valentine. Either way for some reason CA cops dont rely on radars all that much to begin with, so it's almost a waste of money for me. I have the passport 8500...at least I can use it to monitor my voltage outputs when it's not busy detecting anything. I admit the arrows are nice...but I also want the voltage meter.

I'd have to agree with what has been said about the V1. I took a trip up to DC last weekend and it saved me 3 times (twice in VA). I personally think the arrows are awesome. I have no experience with the 8500 so I'm not going to knock it. I got the V1 based on reviews, reputation, and the arrows.

On a side note. I think it's pretty funny when you see people fly by you doing 90+ with their radar detector mounted to the windshield pointing straight up and continue on down the road leading the pack. Actually, I just use them so they get gunned first . But seriously, so many people buy these things and think they are immune to a ticket with it. You can buy a radar detector but you can't buy common sense. Use one correctly and safely you definately reduce the chance of getting a ticket.
