You see, the 99 owners (like me!) Can use SS because we can control the 1st gear. 2000+ owners cant control 1st gear. The best way for you to race is to gate shift, meaning to bring the shifter all the way down and left to the 1 position, and going up the gears manually (not using sport shift). Do you understand what I'm saying.

like start in first, then move right to second, then up to third, then up to fourth, then up to 5th..... as opposed to using SS or D5.

Correct me if I'm wrong 2000+ owners!

Can someone explain to me how SS in 1st gear works in 2000+ TL's? I have a '99 and thus have control over 1st gear in SS. How does this detail work with newer models?

In the 2000+ models, the SS shifts automatically into 2nd gear for you. If you floor it however, it will still rev all the way to the top and change to second by itself as it approaches the redline.

However, if you're in 1st and you casually drive, it'll change gears to 2nd just as if you were in the D5 mode.

I have a 03 TLS and i also use to have a 99 tlp.. i noticed that my 03 automatically shifted into 2nd in the ss mode. Anyone know why this does it??? Whats the point of a ss if the computer takes over and shifts it for you!

Well you should trade in your 03 TLS and get your 99 TLP back!
