Post Raced a cop... for real!!

I was cruisin back home today from a jaunt to Montgomery doing about 80 in a 70, which is OK here in Bama. I get passed by a cop from a jurisdiction way North of Birmingham. I decided to let it go, but then I realize I'm doing about 95 and he's still pulling away. I didn't think it was right that he was flying without lights flashing. I call information to get the phone number to his home police department. As I was talking to some chick at his parent department, I'm telling her that I'm going 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120 and now I'm behind him. She asked for his description and license plate number. We got caught behind some traffic and he sees me on the phone so he tried to leave me. Not this time Bubba. I pulled on him like crazy, got beside him, pointed to my phone then at him and gave him a thumbs down. I hope his freaking badge gets yanked. What a dumbass. I can't believe that I had to police the police!!

BTW, this Type-S pulls much stronger than my 2000 TL did at over 100 mph!! 4th gear is way more usable!

maybe he was a dumbass, but you're the one doing 120 for no reason. I'm sure people can say the same about you. I'm sure it sounds cool and all to you, but it was one of the dumber things I've heard.

Being on the phone doing 120 and telling the cops that you're doing twice the speed limit... no matter how I look at it, it just doesn't make any sense... sorry...

That's exactly why I want a camera on my front bumper or inside the car. Freakin cops in florida always go over 90 mph on 70 mph zones. I did raced an undercover cop. I saw him going through traffic, so I decided to catch up and get next to him, at that moment I didn't know it was a cop. We raced for a couple of miles until I lost him. Then I started slowing down to a regular speed, then like 2 minutes later the car pulls next to me and opens his front window, Bang two cops dressed in cop uniforms inside the car. I'm like shit....I'm in trouble, but they just lought and told me to slow down.....I'm like right, you slow down....of course only in my mind.

A cop cant do anything to you if you race him, as long as he instigated the race. Of course, you may run into his word vs. yours.

100% not true. Cops in CT drive in Z28's on the highways looking to race people and as soon as you do they turn their lights on hit you with multiple tickets. This happened to 2 people I know.

This is known as entrapment:

en·trap (n-trp)
v. tr. en·trapped, en·trap·ping, en·traps.

To lure into performing a previously or otherwise uncontemplated illegal act.

Police are not allowed to do this. Which is why if any police officer revs to you first, he cannot legally do anything to you. Exactly why in prostitute stings the cops make sure they make no hint of sex, the other person has to say it first and has to say they will pay. If the cop mentioned sex first, their case is gone.

In your case, the two people you know probably instigated the race.

matt:

I don't know exact details but this is what I was told. Person cruising above limit in left lane, Z28 cuts in front of them, they move lanes to pass, z28 speeds up and won't let them back in. They race for a little while (I'm guessing cop waits to see how fast and how big a ticket they can write) lights go on, person gets ticket.

I don't know the outcome of the tickets, if they fought or won or whatever as they're people I know and not "friends" so I don't ask a lot of questions.

Fact is, they raced with a cop and got a ticket- which was my point.

I said it in the TL-S forum and will say it again here. This topic is stupid anyway.

This guy's so proud of this act of bravery he posts it in multiple forums. http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/Forum14/HTML/001581.html

I agree. Why would one want to tell on a cop as long as he didn't bother me. I personally would have tried to hang with him but as long as he didn't write me up I wouldn't have called in on him. I hope this guy doesn't live close to B'ham as he might become a police target anytime they think he's done something wrong.

O.K., First of all, you have lodged a verbal complaint with that officers department. You do not have physical evidence, i.e. a photograph, radar, etc. You willing and knowingly sped at your own admission to a receiving officer on the phone. I do not condone what this officer did, however, we receive a number of bogus complaints against us, that are unfounded. This officer may get a verbal warning (unless he admits it) due to the lack of physical evidence. If another officer pulled behind you at those speeds (regardless of your excuse) you would be arrested for willful & wanton reckless driving & public endangerment in our jurisdiction. Had the thought crossed your mind, he may be in response to hot call, nearby (such as officer in distress) but did not use lights and siren for fear of alerting a suspect? Also, did you go through 4 weeks of pursuit and high speed driving tactics as most officers go through. Again, I do not condone excessive speed, but I'm trained to do so. Just consider everything before you react...

what's with you guys? bunch of boring conservative law abiding zombies.

does it ever occur to you that the people who watch over us are faulty and need to be watched? do you guys understand checks and balances? cops speed around freeways without signalling under the guise that they are trying to catch people by surprise. well, sometimes they almost get me into accidents cuz they zoom up behind me so quickly. we need people to be proactive and watch our watchers. do you really think they cops do not abuse their powers? and who is there to stop them? all of you who said that you wouldn't ever do anything against a cop, you might end up not being noticed, but you are all dishonorable cowards. How is society supposed to get better with people who only look out for their own asses?

bravo, TLinBAMA, the TL owner who has superhero balls unlike most of us...

For those of you who have never dealt with the CT Police, they use Z28s, State Trucks, Drug Dealer 'Vettes, or any other type of odd, unmarked vehicle to catch speeders. I personally have seen the Z28's with Porches and other exotic cars pulled over on the side of I-91, and the victims were not pleased.

Acura3200 is correct!

If it's okay for you to speed/race, why is it not okay for cops to do so? Besides, some of the cops out there are pretty nice and may let you off in certain instances. I hope you didn't piss this cop off, now maybe he'll ticket all TL drivers (or all speeders for that matter) whenever he gets a chance!

a cup unless he/she did something just totally wrong, like when the beat the hell out of Rodney King in L.A.

Where do you live? Thats hard to believe. In NYC we would have been shot by the cop just for being on the phone while driving, if that wasn't enough, we'd be arrested and beat up for giving them a thumbs down. Oh yeah and at those speeds they take away your car and set a mandatory court date.

LOL..... Technically (In NY, I know this much) Police officers MUST obey all traffic laws like all other drivers on the road unless they are in pursuit with their lights on... You know how many times I've been tempted to blow a traffic light at 4am(or even earlier parts of the day) like the cops do when there's no traffic and they don't want to wait for the light to change? I'm dying to do it just to make a point... Of course I would have my videocamera in my hand to record them doing it as well....
In most cases, NYC cops take advantage of their power way more than they are allowed to.

Oh yeah, let's not forget the 80 in a 50 ticket I got coming home one night because I was pacing a police car not thinking I was doing anything wrong(seeing that they must obey the rules too).... I was found innocent, and the only thing the cop lost was his pride.

That sounds very sneaky, but I can so imagine that take place.
Don't race with American muscle cars period. Not worth it.

Isnt that z28 cop incident or whatever called entrapment? THat is purely illegal for cops to do and if he instigated a race and then pulled you over, i think you can totally get away with that. at least thats what i think.

bobatimez...I SALUTE YOU!! Although, here in Raleigh we like to accelerate past them at triple digit speeds with really big grins on our faces and waving to them through the window. Don't let anyone tell you all about that speed crap. I do at least 110 every day going home from work. Sometimes cops see me and don't even bother me because we're the only cars out at those times. Just set the cruise and roll...

If the coppers wanna go fast too, then they'll have to live with the consequences if they get caught...just like us "regular" people.

The whole point is that the cop was abusing his power. The municipality that he covers was about 100 miles away, and I'm sure he just wanted to get home for the weekend. There is no way he was responding to a call. In a hurry is no reason for him to speed like that! He accepted the job of being a police officer. Like politicians and soldiers, he is held to higher standards. I think it's pathetic that we, as a society, hold athletes to extremely high standards for personal conduct but let cops (and Bill Clinton, et al) slide when doing wrong. I was an officer on Active Duty and now in the National Guard, and we have to live by certain standards. If you commit adultery, you're busted. If you speed on post, it's a federal offense. There's no reason that cop should have done what he did. I don't condone what I did either, but I felt it had to be done for a reason. We need to set standards, adhere to them, and punish those that choose not to follow them. If it was an engineer or businessman, I wouldn't have cared. Remember in Top Gun when Maveric was told that he doesn't own the plane but the taxpayers do? It's the same deal here. If that cop can't handle living with the standards for police conduct, both on and off duty, then he should look for employment elsewhere. Integrity is being faced with a decision between right and wrong, but doing what's right even when no one is there to know the difference. His integrity was compromised and he should be busted. Period.
