Post Raced a Civic Si...

Okay here is the deal, I was at a stoplight when I punch my gas about 3/4 of the way, taking off to see if the lowered black Civic Si would follow me, for about 5 seconds, I dont see it pull on me, so I just cruise at about 60 mph, when I suddenly see this thing catching up in my rear view mirror, so I put it in SS mode and punch it in 4th gear, but the damn Civic is pulling on my tail, and I had about 1500 rpm before redline on 4th gear, so I decide to downshift to 3rd, but SS mode wont let me, (I guess was too close to redline in 4th gear). We both went up to about 125mph before we decide to stop, but that damn Civic kept on pulling onto my tail even until 125mph, that lil thing is very quick. I'm guessing it's a dead even race low end, while when our TL's get into 4th gear, I think the lil Civic might even pull ahead alittle, but it wasn't a drag race from a dead stop so I'm not sure but, I gotta be cautious near Civic Si's...but you gotta know that Si's only come in stick...plus mine had no engine mods except for a drop in filter...

Why not get a Z28 Camaro or Vette if you wanna race those little Honda's with the huge exhaust? I don't understand why people, with $30K LUXURY cars are even thinking about racing . . . People should go out and purchase an old 5.0 for that.

Not to diss on you or anything but 4th gear is our DEAD gear, at 60 if you had downshifted to 2nd you would've blown him away, even if you downshifted to 3rd you would still beat him. Si's are not fast at all, I keep up with one on the freeway with my girlfriend's AUTO 95 240sx! Good race.

Yea I was thinking that I would have probably even beat him or pulled harder on him from a dead stop where I can run my low gears up into the powerband, but then I was already topping out my 4th gear and I tried downshifting but the computer wouldnt let me...so all I could do was stomp on the gas and see where I was going, all I saw was that lil Civic on my tail the whole time...

The fastest way if you're cruising is to just push it into auto and floor it and let the computer choose the best gear. sequentially downshifting for a race takes way too long and is stuipd.

Thanks rice, but you didnt have to put the word "stupid" in there...

you could have ended with saying, "sequentially downshifting for a race takes way too long."

I'd be with you on that one, but I've found that I can execute and time shifts better than the computer by using an abacus. Besides, the beads are carbon fiber and look cool on my dash.

I had a similar incident. Not that I was racing, but I wanted to see how restricted the TL really was, and for me, the freeway is a good test for that, and sure enough, fixed up civic pulled and passed me, how sad. But I don't believe that should happen anymore with my hi-flo cat..

I had some trouble with my friends si. it acctaully took my tl. basicly all he had were cams and a vtec controller. we were at the local safeway and he just started playing with the controller. and after he got it all set we dicided to race a bit. came to a full stop at a light and when it turned green we both floored it. took him half a car length at first. but when i got to my vtec in 2nd gear he started to come up on me started to chirp when he was shifting and that was his first time doing that shit to.
