Thumbs up Raced a BMW Z3

Tonight I was coming home from dropping off a movie. I pull up to a red light and this guy pulls up beside me in a BMW Z3 and starts reving his motor. I normaly don't race anyone on the streets. But I could not help myself. So I took off the traction control and rolled up the windows and dropped it down into 1st. Then I rev it up to about 2500 RPMS. The light turns green. I floor it. The Z3 got me off the line about 1/4 car length. I caught him quickly and passed him. I continued to pull away from him until I got to 100mph. I was about 5 or 6 car lengths ahead of him. When we got to the next light I asked him what motor he had. He said it was the 3.0. He had exhaust aftermarket exhaust on it. I dont know what other mods he had I did not ask him. I thought the 3.0 Z3 was faster than the TL-S.

Interesting, I would've thought that the Z3 was faster, but you know what, I dont know. Maybe after he took you from the line he just stopped racing. But if he didn't ...nice kill!!

A few things to keep in mind...

1) perhaps YOU had better driving skills
2) he probably had an automatic
3) convertibles are weighted down for safty reasons

I used to have a Z3 , with the smaller engine (1.8?) , those things are real quick and have a bunch of torque , i think a 3.0 could prob beat a TL-S.

CubanLinx: Uhmm! Don't think so. 1.8 fast???

'01 Z3 3.0 (Manual) MT Jan '01:
0-60=5.9sec
1/4=14.1sec at 96mph
0-100=17.12sec

'02 TLS 3.2 R&T Jul '01
0-60=6.2sec
1/4=14.8sec at 96mph
0-100=16sec

As you can see at the end (0-100) the BMW is already over 1sec behind and this is with a manual BMW, we don't know if that one was a manual. Also exhaust means nothing for most cars but more aggressive sound. Just look at the CT for our cars, you actually loose HP!!!
Is the same old story, everytime somebody kill a BMW it was luck or the guy was an idiot driving or lets see what else. Give me a break.
Good job magicman on putting a disappearing job on the Bimmer.

maxx96 - i have driven both a z3 and i now drive a TLS , i am just saying from experience that the z is not a slow car , it is tiny but the engine is huge , i dont look a numbers but base it more on actual experience. And i was mistaken the one i drove was a 3.0.

You are right Cuban, numbers are numbers and out in the street even one second means nothing if your timing is out. Most of the numbers from ALL of the big names MT, R&T, C&D etc. are numbers based on just about perfect conditions and 3 or 4 times tries at it, out in the street you have one chance and that's it. As you can see it was proven by Magicman.

Chemmech I have a few mods. CT Headers, CT Ice box, Tanabe Exhaust, Yoko rubber, and AEM pullies.
Is300eater It was a manual. He was throwing rubber in 1st and 2nd gear.

Maybe it was 1.9L or perhaps 2.5L auto. I'm pretty sure a 2.8L or a 3.0L Z3 manual would have given you a different outcome.

Raced one the first week I bought my car, it was a blue convertible. He had to be an automatic because we tried continuously at 6 consecutive lights. He really sucked, I took him everytime. He said after 100mph he would walk me down, maybe, maybe not but he lost six times in one day by a GIRL!!! With his girlfriend in the car, it was fun. Hey, good KILL MAGICMAN8888

I've raced a manual 3.0 and was ahead except for the initial launch. This was even true from a 60mph roll and I seemed to get further ahead when doing so., but not by 6 car lengths!
I messed around with a new Z4 on the highway not long ago in some light traffic and he was firmly planted on my tail and I could never pull on him at all. I'm going to assume it was faster than me or at worst, even...
I have some friends with 4cyl Z3's and they are not a match for the TL-S except in the twisties...I have no idea if the older 3.0 came in auto or not, but based on the distance around 100mph, I'm going to assume it was or transplanted some badges!
