i was comming home tonite when i saw a BMW front-end comming in my rearview mirror... i slowly accelerated just to see if he would follow.. and he did. it was on. i floored my car (was in third gear at that point doin about 80). he immediatly started pulling on me. he started like maybe 2 cars behind me and by the time i hit 125 he was about 2 cars ahead.

he then took the same interchange as me so i followed him and we both floor it when we got onto the highway and he started pulling away... he was nice tho i flashed my high beams and he put on his hazards as to say: "good race".

i checked the stats on the internet and it only has like 240hp and 238lbs of torque, and it's a bit lighter (3100lbs).. i guess the gearing on this car is really good cuz the numbers arent that impressive

anyway it was a fun race.

Ummmm putting your hazards on is a way of taunting someone you just beat... it isn't a compliment, its as to say: "I fucking owned you." :P

M coupe was never a popular model because of its weird design, but it sure was a fucking beast. 315 hp E46 M3 engine.

I'm surprised you didn't lose by more than just 2 carlengths. Either way, good race.

i kno that but by the way he did it that's not what he meant.

Pure adrenaline: he started 2 cars behind me and ended up 2 cars in front of me, so he took 4 cars

That's an ugly looking car. The link gale provided claims the M couple has a 3.2L 240hp engine. Same engine as the 1999 and earlier m3's.

Later, they dropped the E46 M3 engine in it -- although it was detuned to 315 hp.

1999-2000 M coupes have the 240 hp. S52 engine from the 96-99 US M3.

2001-2002 M coupes have the 315 hp. S54 engine from the 2001- E46 M3, but with less hp. due to exhaust packaging issues.

It was most likely the 99-00 with 240 hp. They look the same as the later cars, and they probably outnumber the 01+ coupes by a 10:1 ratio. Both are rare, with less than 1000 examples in the US in total for all years, IIRC.

In any event, the 240 hp. cars are geared to be nearly as fast as the 315 hp cars at lower speeds. The 99-00 run 5.2 0-60 and mid 13 quarter miles, so don't expect to hang with one unless your TL is putting down similar numbers.

I think the official name is "Clown Shoe".

The M Coupes make excellent track cars, even with their E30-derived rear suspension. Many people believe they are one of the best, if not the best, handling BMWs of all time.

For me, the interior is just too small, particularly in the shoulders.

I do find myself looking at M roadsters these days, now that prices have fallen to the low 20s and even less. I drove an S2K the other day that was a total POS (the particular example). Unfortunately, to get a convertible I would have to get rid of the TL, (to replace it with the convertible and a lesser daily driver) and that does not seem to be a very good option at the moment.

The way he did it? All he did was push a button. It means "I win." except in a more rude way. It DOESN'T mean "Good race."

hey i know what he meant i was there and you were not. he did not exactly put on his hazards, he just hit the brakes a few time to flash his lights after i high-beamed him.

I put my hazards on to say "good race I won"

Flash my high beams " good race, I learned my lesson, maybe next time?"

I fucking owned you can only be said on a track were both drivers are able to open up.... I have let off races with modded cars I could kill, just because it was the wrong time wrong place.....just to find a radar trap within the next 10 min... You'll only "own" someone when you both hit a track......InMyOpinion

I've raced two of them with my mustang on the expressway and both were very very even. They would pull a tiny when I shifted and they were at their peak, and then I would gain it right back after I shifted back into my power range.

They are definitely goofy lookin cars, but make for great drifters and a turbo/debadged one would make a very nice sleeper.

I meant a quick high beam flash, you know, like the "guy's hello nod"..

if you're being beaten by a long shot, they might not even see the hazards.
