Question Raced a Altima.

Saturday night while at a red light. There was the guy in a V6 Altima beside me. I never meant to race him but we did. I gun it off the line and so did he. We re neck and neck all the way to 120 KM/H...after that point I let off the gas. Nobody won. I was in automatic and not SS. If I were to used SS, would I have beat him?

Yeh mine is a 99 with only K&N air filter. If that was a 240 HP + Altima, then my car did ok.

^^ thought you had headers too

2002 MAXIMA and MAXIMA SE both do 6.3 and 6.2 respectively in the 0-60...vs your 7.3-7.5 (not in ss)

BUT

2003 MAXIMA model is much slower @ 7.1 <----guess you raced thisone, close race...it all depends on the start.

haven't installed the headers yet~

i walked away my frd's 01 maxima with 3.0L, even not under WOT

the auto maxima only do 7 sec, the manual can do low 6s, but not too many manuals out there actually

Must have been all that weight reduction from the debaging that allowed you to keep up ...

Just kiddin..

Was this the latest generation Altima? 3.5L V6 Altimas are pretty fast. In manual form, they're about as fast as the 5AT Type S and 4AT 3.5 Maxima SE. Sounds like you were racing an auto which is closer in performance to the TL-P.

Autos are about 7.1seconds 0-60, and run about a 15.4 @ 91mph in the 1/4 mile.

By the way, etxxz what are you talking about? ... Nissan Maximas ? This thread is about the Altima And the 2002-2003 Maximas with 255hp/250 lb-ft are pretty much identical. They should run the same numbers in 0-60 time and 1/4 mile time. The re-designed 2004 model is slower 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile than its predecessor but not that much slower (only off by about 0.1 in the 1/4 mile). If you've got some magazines saying the 2003 Maximas ran a 7.1s 0-60 then the driving conditions must have been poor for that review or the driver sucked ass. Again there's no major differences between the 2002 and 2003 Maximas especially in terms of performance.

Yes, It was a 3.5. I can could tell it was because it had dual exhausts. Its not the latest designed one. If he beat me by a car length, then I would be upset. We were neck and neck. I could hear is car roaring so I assume he must have done some modding. At 120 Km/H I let off because we were coming up to an area with cops. He has a passenger too I didn’t. I really wished I used the SS. But like I said before. If I could keep up with him with a only mod is the Air filter. Then I did all right. I probably won’t do anymore engine.exhaust mods because I don’t race at all. This was a rare occasion.

BTW…this location was going towards west on the Lakeshore Blvd before the Gardnier Expressway. The street light was at Coxwell.

If he had a 3.5 SE then there's no reason why he didn't beat you by at least a car length other than the fact that he wasn't really trying. A '99 TL-P four-speed with only an air filter should not be neck-and-neck with a 3.5 SE Altima. Good job keeping up with him but maybe he fell asleep at the light or he had a stick and didn't know how to use it. A 3.5 SE should beat a TL-P, no offense.

it really depends on the launch

whoever goes first will win basically

just like a RSX-S will be head to head with a WRX if the WRX fell asleep at a launch

OR...he wasn't racing to "win".

Alot of times a car would try to cut me off only for me to accelerate and not let him/her in.

I don't ever recall doing a real street race, but I sometimes get fun out of annoying drivers that think cutting me off to gain 1 car lenght would save them tons of time.

You are 100% correct... I've got a video of me beating a 2004 TL off the line and all the way to about 120km when I lost him weaving through traffic...

The guy in the 04 TL was a weaving around in my rear view and ended up lining up beside me at the lights.... I saw him looking at the "inspire" badging ... I had my camera on my passenger seat so I grabbed it and placed it in the head rest facing out the passengers window.. you can see the 04TL pull off the line but once I enter vtec in 1st gear it was too late for him to take me, I guess he didn't expect to get taken that easily off the line... maybe he thought he could play with me. He really tried to keep up, I could hear his car roaring as well, I just punched it a little sooner....

I would post the video but I yell "Ladies and Gentlemen" about three times in the video and I sound like a big nob ... I was doing some presentations eairlier that day so I had that "pre-programmed" public speaking "lingo" in full effect....

Hahaha, thats so funny. I've seen so many vids of people racing and talking to themselves while doing it ... I never talk when I'm in the middle of a race, even if someone is in the car with me. Maybe its the camera that makes the diff haha ... You should post it anyways, just don't admit that its you driving

I never have had the opportunity to race an '04 TL except last weekend. But I had a girl in the car and I figured I'd be better off not succumbing to racing the guy. So I let him take off and think his '04 was faster

Here’s what happened. At the lights at Coxwell and Lakeshore Blvd. There was this Altima sitting waiting at the lights. No one to the right lane so I moved into there. I was ready to gun it because I was meeting up with people and was late. When the lights turned green I gun it, and so did he! Like I said, I was in automatic. First gear, he was a bit ahead by a tire length, 2nd gear I was catching up, 3rd gear I caught up, at 4th gear around 120 KM/h, I called it quits while he kept on going. If I had a car like that, I would want to beat the other car hands down. He didn’t. He had a passenger, but she wasn’t big. His car might have been a year or 2 years old. While mine is over 4 plus years (99TL).

If I were handily beaten up, I would be complaining about my car and ask for advice to mod the hell out of it. Instead, I am proud to own this car because what it did. I didn’t lose respect that night.

Now I got to learn to use the sport shift on these occasions.

the video is 7megs.... even with an empty/brand new account at Acura Inspired dot com.. there isn't enough room for me to upload it.

And the video was at night... so all you see is the front of his car pass me off the lights and then ...gone... not much to see... I'm screaming like a little girl after the "*$cking kill for the record books" (coincidently that's what I was screamin, even though it wasn't much of a kill.. I was a little excited....)

Suggestions on where to host a 7+meg video file?

.. and your thoughts on a TL-P against a integra GS-R? I raced one yesterday and he had nothing for me. (Important note is my TL-P is COMPLETELY stock.. Ive even negated the 3 HP for my tint lol )
