Race
Hey guys, I need your opinion..
My friend keeps telling me that his car is faster than mine and he is willing to bet 50 bucks that he can take me. This is the break down of what we got....
I have a 2003 TL type S with a AEM cold air intake
He has a 2004 TL (auto) with Injen cold air intake
What do you think?

It's going to be a driver's race. Make sure you get a good launch. Don't get hasty, and ease into throttle. It's much easier to make up for a slow start than a fucked up start.
If you're good with gate-shifting, then gate-shift. If not, just leave it in D5.
Good luck, and keep it safe. Let us know what happens.

A/C Off VSA Off Gate Shift Highest octane fuel squeeze the throttle no spare and take out all non essential cargo windows up, radio and lights off sunroof closed fast for three days and drive nekid... set a distance marker and keep it safe still a driver's race and it will be close.

pour some octane boost before you race this guy. He doesnt have to know. Since both of you have intake that kinda cancel each other. Race with 1/4 tank of gas since a full tank of gas can be heavy. Take a piss and a $hit before you race to reduce weight <---- J/K. The gas tank thing is for reals tho and I think a higher octne will give you a little extra kick in your engine
run him with quarter tank or less... and take out your spare tire... There is a estimate calculation that I've read.. it's approx 100lbs = 10hp .. so for every 100lbs you take out of your car, your car will perform like it has an extra 10 hp (these are approximates obviously)...
I've also overheard the weight of gasoline somewhere and I remember claculating the weight of our TL tank, it was about 100-120lbs of gasoilne with a full tank.
So if you do only run with minimal gas, take out your spare and trunk insert..... you should lighten your load by over 140-150 lbs...

According to the Material Safety Data Sheets provided by BP Amoco, each of the unleaded, fuel-grade gasolines has a specific gravity around 0.75 g/ml (grams per milliliter). In British units, this specific gravity can be expressed as lb/pt (pounds per pint), since a pint of water with a specific gravity of 1.0 weighs a pound. Since there are 8 pints to a gallon, 8 x 0.75 = 6, so:
a gallon of gasoline should weigh 6 pounds.
(Likewise, 1L of petrol weighs 750 g, for everyone outside of the US.)

The TL-S has more torque down low, while the 04 has a torque surge in the higher RPMs. My advice is nail your launch and shift at the redline. VSA off, put it in SS, and gun it. Let the computer shift 1-2 for you in SS and shift at the red the rest of the way. It will be a fun close race. Depends on how good of a driver you are.
The 04 is a bit more tricky to drive because the rev limmiter hits quickly after redline (unlike the TL-S which lets you go to about 7100 RPMs. So the race will also depend on how well your friend knows how to drive the 04 as well.
