1x3 = 1 drain and refill with 3 qts
3x3 = 3 sets of drain and refill with 3 qts each time for full fluid changeout
not a great plan on already high miles and never changed fluid-
stick with a 1x3 for safety
use honda atf

Ahhh...makes sense now. TY. I just bought the car (99 TL) from a friend. The trans was rebuilt 1.5 years ago by a shop that Acura subs out tranny rebuilds too, so not worried about never replaced fluid. My concern is that I feel a slight hesitating, possible slipping between 1-2. I saw I Hate Cars rave about Redline Type F, thought I'd give it a try. But doing a 3 x 3 with Redline would cost a pretty penny.

Should try the cheap Type F first, and if it is all, then change it over with Redline.

Ok, makes sense to use cheeper fist just in case, but now Im getting confused. When i Google Type F ATF, it says it's for Ford cars? Is that right?

And thanks for the heads up on the amount that drains, would suck if i were to only buy 3 quarts, and not have enough to fill.

from back in the day: there were two main atfs-
Dextron3 (bad for us) and used by most car makes of the time
and Type F, used in fords --probably under the keep it simple theory for oil change places--F = ford fluid
Its used in many other cars as well- saturns use it~

Sweet, I learn something new everyday. I usually have manual cars so automatics are new territory for me. Thanks.
