i used a flat-head screw driver and just went around evenly on both sides of the tabs to take them off. dont rush, or else they will break. you prob already know, but after you get the carpet off, clean the lid with water or use rubbing alcohol if its real dirty. remember to avoid covering up the holes where the tabs go back in, cause i forgot and had to punch holes in my dynamat to make the tabs go back in...lol. other than that, its a great sound suppressor for the car.
That, and you need to put it on your rear deck also - if you have subs. I did my trunk lid, rear deck and all around the trunk. This helped alot - but the trunk still rattles some. Its really just from the actual air moving inside the trunk and thats physically moving the trunk - it stops if you push hard on top of the trunk. I wonder if there is a way to tighten it down? hmmm who knows, it sounds good inside the car thats all that matters.
Often trunk lid rattles can be eliminated by increasing the preload on the latch. Often trunk lid rattles sound like they are coming from the rear package tray. Raising the latch will make the trunk a little harder to close and at the same time it will stop the trunk lid from moving as a unit in response to SPL. You may still need the dynamat the trunk lid to reduce the panel movement of the trunk lid's sheet metal skin. Whatever you do make sure that your trunk mounted spoiler and rear licence plate are mounted securely so they don't buzz.
