quick help

I'm trying to clean my TB and IM right now, is this all I have to remove to do so, or is there more? Please elaborate. Thanks

that looks about all you need to do for the IM and TB, but if you spray cleaner in there don't let it all run down into your cylinders or you could run the risk of hydrolocking the engine. i don't know exactly how much liquid it would take but why chance it.

i'm also not too familiar with the TL IM construction, but make sure you put some papertowels down in there in the outlets to the chambers to soak up the liquid.

you would have to remove the part pictured (upper IM) to clean it. There is no way of sticking any thing in the ports to stop the fluid from going down in the engine with out removing it.

That is what I thought, however, Pops wasn't pleased to see me dismantling my engine, so that ended that there. I did clean the gasket and the cover, but that is as far as I was allowed to go
Anyways, maybe I'll finish the job at another point

see the 6 small holes in your 2nd pic. Those are what gets clogged and need to be cleaned. You will want to remove the intake (very easy 11 bolts) and a few hoses and wires) t o clean it properly

gotcha. i'm going to tear mine apart this summer to get familiar with it and clean it out. i remember having to clean the intake manifold on my SHO. goddam that was a pain. the manifold runners had sweeping curves that were a pain to clean properly. the TL IM seems much friendlier.

its very easy. There isnt much to clean in them, Most of its the 6 small holes that need to be cleaned out. They are what usually clogs up triggering the P0401 code

I cleaned mine about a month ago and it was not very hard at all. Most of your time will be consumed by cleaning. I started cleaning just the six holes, but since I am OCD, I ended up cleaning as much as I could. Just make sure you plug everything back in when you are done. I forgot the VSA harness that is on top of the throttle body when I started it up the first time and the VSA light stayed on.
