Quick Alternator question..

Hey guys, I am building a nice sized system for SPL this season..I'll be pushin out over 3000watts at max, so I need to get a definitive answer on the output of the stock '99 alternator.

From some research on this site I have found one thread with an answer, however the member posting said he though it was accurate. The info I found was -

Stock 99-03 alternator was 110 amps...

Stock 2004 alternator is 140 amps..

two questions....

Would a stock 04 alt fit into the 99 without replacing te size of the belt?
And
Can some one confirm the amperage in the two alternators?

110 is what I have heard a few different times...but with 3000 watts you are going to need a pissed off alternator - the most you can get out of ours is 190 amps and at 14.4 volts, that wont even hit 3000 watts, much less running your car. But for SPL you will need a few extra batteries to keep the voltage up, that will help if your alternator cant keep up.

I dont know about the fitment of the '04 alternator, but 140 amps wont help you out anyway.

I curious, if our 110 amp alternator can get rewound up to 190 amps... can the 04 140amp alternators get rewound to 230amps?

Not sure if the same principals apply.

I know I will need to replace the stock battery... down the line rewind the alternator.. and then possible add deep cell battery to the trunk setup.

You will need multiple batteries for competition, and yes ours can be rewound that high. That is what I was quoted at 2 different places. I doubt that principle will apply to the 04, space inside the stock housing will hold it back.
