Thumbs up Questions Of the Day

Harrrro, everyone.

QUESTIONS of THE DAY!

Question 1

What is the best gear to make your RPM go higher for "that" loud
wonderful noise of the car.

( I did SS mode D4-(minus) then went up to 6000RPM then shifted up to D5+)
That's when I had the nicest sound..

So what is the Best Gear shift for the best "sound"
Also I want to remove the intake resonator.

Question 2

You all know the gear shift?
not the shift itself but the plate ( cover )
Your's is probably silver like mine.
But the previous owner scratched it real bad.

And I'd like to re-paint it black or whatever colour you guy's suggest.
maybe I need to sand it?

Question 3

the "Resonator"
I know how to remove it..
Planning to remove it.

Anyways..

If I go to a carshop bodyshoy whatever.
can they remove the "resonator" for free?

and Will the sound change?
and Does it cause any damage? doing this?
Or gas problems anything.

Question 4

I have the Brake Lamp
popping out of the dash : (

I don't know how to fix it.
I wanna do it instead of paying someone to do it for me..
It's on the right side..

Those are all the questions thank's to all
have a good day.

Also heres a picture of what I call the "gear shift"

What I mean is the cover in this picture it's silver mine is all scratched up.

Credits to thelastaspec for the picture.

No sarcasm please.

- Tyler

Q2)There's a DIY in the DIY thread how to remove and paint it.
Use a good quality duplicolor spray paint.

Q3)No, they will not revome it for free.
You can get a nice K&N filter as well to replace the current one if it is dirty.
K&N filters do not get replaced, you wash and oil them when dirty.

Q4)Get someone to hold the brake pedal, look at witch bulb is burnt out.
There are two bulbs per "light" and the high mount stop light
Go to Canadian tire and get
Brake light bulb size:
7443

High mount:
7440

Q1) I'm not going to get into that, personally, sorry.

Its in the manual how to remove the panel and replace the bulb.
5 min job.
Check to confirm the bulb # in the manual and on the bulb itself.
Go to Crappy Tire and get a replacement one.
Pop it in.

register with acura canada, (try search on here or internet or call dealer for website)

Read the owner book online there if one didnt come with the car
All the systems are covered in detail- TL is a very different car than normal
congrats on such a nice car at a young age
Hopefully it means you are responsible and wont be out beating the car to death and endangering others life on the road driving recklessly

Learn how to drive normal slow and safe before pushing the TL
or it will end up in a tree!!

Then attend track day high performance driving schools held at car race tracks everywhere
Your car on course with a pro driver as your coach--thats a huge learning experience and loads of fun

that sound you like is `vtec` kicking in- wikipedia vtec for info on what happens.
most years its set to come on at 4700rpm and stays on to redline
Warning =use of vtec kills gas mileage!!!

SS mode: 1-2 shift..some years have no control- it autoshifts 1-2 so you dont run thru a parking lot at 5000rpm in 1st!!

remove the front bumper cover to access the resonator box, (see DIY section) and buy a K&N filter for 50 bucks,

why would ANY shop do work for free?
are you some bigshot in town? at age 15~
maybe you are a teen rock star, Idol winner, dad owns the town etc...?
If not- you pay like everyone else has to= thats how places stay open- not giving away labor or parts

the K&N filter last 1 million miles!! it needs a special $12 box cleaning/reoil kit to use every few years, (box contents good for 5 cleaning and reoils-- about a lifetime worth)

they say 50kmiles between filter cleanings, but real life says do it more often to keep nice clean air flowing thru it at high speed
The engine appreciates that

here is the DIY list with links to each subject- save it to favorites in your browser

it takes about 20 minutes maybe from start to finish. why should they work on your car for free, when they can put that 20 minutes towards another customer that IS paying? that's how business works broseph

"that loud wonderful noise of the car" = vtec . in our case, it engages right around 5.5k rpm. but why would you wanna hit vtec everytime? just get an exhaust and you can hear a loud wonderful noise the whole time.

yes, you can remove the gear shift plate. unscrew the shift knob by twisting left/counter clockwise. once off, stick your finger under the outside trim on each side and carefully pry off. then to get the plate off, pull right and up at the same time.

if you say you know how to remove your intake resonator by yourself, why don't you just do that instead of asking a shop to do it for you? no shops will do it for free unless you have hookups.

brake lamp? check your brake reservoir. its a common problem in our 2g's especially in cold weather. you might need to fill it up with brake fluid or if its still full, simply take the cap off, press the sponge, and put it back on. should go off.

You are thinking about the brake light. The brake lamp light is only an indicator that one of the bulbs in the tails is out.

removing the bumper is not always so easy. it took me a while because of some stubborn pop-clips. each car varies. but you definitely DO NOT need to take off the front bumper to remove the intake resonator.

and the reason you need experience to drive fast is so you dont end up like this dumbass:

I have heard of an alternate way to removing the bumper cover- is it in the DIY yet?

if your vtec doesnt come on till 5500 something is wrong
You should feel a push into the seat and more aggressive cam profile kick in-= more torque
2nd gear is good for winding it out- but thats also the weak clutches so heat there is a real issue

because a job is easy to someone who knows how,,does not make their knowledge and expertise free! (except here~)

Did the OP pay for this car by saving from working
or daddy handed you a TL for your first car...
with no real driver training- and an inabilty to use the internet for research?

the gen2 DIY list- https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=706083
please ck it for most of your needs- the shifter removal and other things you will want to do

We dont mind answering questions, but basic things you should be able to find on your own
Do a search on here for acura canada registration website-
on the site you can read the owner manual- amazing info in there!

the phone is 1-888-9acura9
Also register there as new owner-(different systems)
ask for a ck on OPEN recalls, status of any warranty, other questions about the car..

i also got my tl at 15 and i got an adrenaline rush hitting vtec and beyond; it's not uncommon for teens to have a need for speed (although it is very dangerous). now i drive slower and baby my tranny.

doesn't vtec kick at 4.5krpm for us? at least my tl-p does around there.

gate shifting > ss

EVERY gear can get the RPM higher, not one specific gear. The slot to the left isn NOT gear 4 and 5, thats SS mode. It gives you the control to chose what gear your are in.

If you are in D5 and stand on the gas, it will downshift a few gears (2nd) and pull high rpm no problem,,run itself right up to redline and shifts itself

we were all young and reckless, some more than others--
I encourage everyone- regardless of 6 months or 60 years driving,,go do a track day!! high performance driving school in a safe controlled environment-
no speeding tickets!!! no cars coming opposite direction!!!
and 3-4 miles of 35 foot wide asphalt-- every inch of that width... plus a little more~
for your use in and out of the corners

Use of throttle- steering and brake control skills are developed more with each on-track session, and debriefing with a pro racer

Most drivers come away wondering how they survived on the road this long!

Thank you so much -1tl4tl : )
I'm obviously not gonna do this in traffic
Just for a test : )

My TL is so silent
It's like someone whispering..
I know all Luxury cars are like that.

But.. I just want it to make a nice aggressive sound.
at like 60km like in the street.

And if i take out the intake resonator box out will it cause anything?
or harm whatever or just sound improve?

If you look at the left of your guages there is a small sceen (LED digit) that will illuminate when you are in SS/Tip-Tronic to show your current gear.

have you tried moving the shift lever when at a stop- see what action it takes, might be left to right in auto side of shifter for 1-2 shift- then up for the rest
Thats called GATE shifting and can be dangerous-hit nuetral by accident
thankfully we have rev limiter!!
If you want full control of the gears, use SS, thats what its for- playtime

please go register with acura canada website and READ the owner manual you can get there -online
98% of the driving and system tips you NEED to know are there= free!!!!!

I know its fun to make noise revving around on the street, removing the intake res wont hurt the engine in any way. Many of us have done it, the head tech at my dealer said to do it!
If your year has fake foglight cutouts in the front, open the driver side up with a dremel tool to allow more fresh outside air in...cutting out the material between the raised parts keeps it stealthy, cant even tell its been done

but PLEASE look up `track day` at local road racing track
best 200-300 bucks you can spend on the TL--
tightens the wildly loose nut behind the wheel~
A day of that calms down your street driving as you realize how poorly other drivers are wandering down the road,

track day cost less than any speeding ticket!!!

15 and you have no clue what you're doing in a car, mind you a luxury car with too much horsepower -_-, use the search button. I'm so tired of new members coming in and making a thread because they're too lazy to search around.

You can, you just have to be going slow enough. Seriously, if you are that unsure of how every thing works DONT be trying.
