The biggest difference is:

TL-S: 260 HP
TL-P: 225 HP

The others, everybody else need to help me out on.

Premium for what.....there are no options for our TL's to make them premium. The only option is Navi and both TL and TLS could have it.

TL-P is for premium according to my 2002 TL owners manual.

Other differences between TL-P and TL-S

TL-s has over and above the TL-P as follows

260 HP vs 225 HP
VSA vs TCS
17 inch tires vs 16 inch tires
Preforated leather seats, steering wheel and shifter vs plain leather seats

Different contoured seats

Halo head rest.

Stiffer suspension

Thats it I think.

Think the "P" was introduced back during the 1st GEN TL's. There was a normal version available and a "Premium" version available. I think Acura just took along the "P" to make it sound like you are getting something special still.

So in other words....TL-P = TL. Right?????? It still makes no sense.

TL
Normal with Navi or non-navi

TLS
with Navi or non-navi
260 HP
VSA
17 inch tires vs 16 inch tires
Preforated leather seats, steering wheel and shifter vs plain leather seats
Different contoured seats
Halo head rest.
Stiffer suspension

So what is TL-P ??????????????????????????

Right, the TL-P is the new name for the regular TL, starting with the 2002 models. I guess since they introduced the Type S, they had to give a new name to the regular model so people didn't go around calling it a "regular TL" or a "plain TL".

Thanks mikester. But, why called it TL-P.....sounds better just TL or TL type S. I'm ignoring the P

do we also have a CL-P :P

Guys,
There is no such thing as a TL-P. There is an 02 TL with or without nav and an 02TL-S with or without nav. TL-P is a name that someone on this forum came up with to separate the two. It originally meant TL-Plain, but there is no actual official TL-P in existence. I never liked it anyway since it was made up. Hope this clears things up once and for all. For the 99-01 TL's there is only nav or no nav.

Doesn't it also come with torque-sensitive steering or is that for all 2002 models?

OK, here you go....

The P originated from the CL

There was the CL-S and what they called the CL-P. The P standing for Premium and being the "regular" model.

It was used to distinguish them apart. If someone said "I just bought a CL" a common question would be "did you get the Type-S".

If a person said "I just bought a CL-P" there would be no question, right?

Until the 02 Type-S came out, the 99-01 version was simply known as a TL since there was no other model. Now with the Type-S, they added the P to the base version to distinguish them apart.

OK, I admit, they probably didn't do it so when people ask you what type it is, but I think you understand that there was reason to distinguish them further apart.

Make sense?

Woodman, I am telling you in my 2002 owners manual the TL-P is in existance which means premium. Would I lie to you about this stupid fact.

The Acura marketing department must have been working overtime on this "P" thing to confuse us all.

BLEXV6,
Could there be different books for the US and Canada? Could you post a scan of the page? I have never heard of a TL-P.
You are right---this is a stupid topic/fact now that I think about it. Maybe someone can check the US manual anyway.

"Premium" is mentioned throughout the 2002 TL manual and is also on the new car stickers affixed to non-Type S's at the dealer. Here's a scanned image of page 193 of the manual:

Who cares about why it is named TL-P or just TL.
We all know the main differences between TL-S and a regular TL.
Let's just leave at that, a TL is a TL and a TL type S is a TL type S. Just because there is now a Type S model, some people when they are referring to the base TL model, they use TL-P.
We don't really if it is really "premium" !!!
So, cool it

The MDX naming is even more confusing. In addition to the MDX-P (premium) they have an MDX-T (touring). The added features of the touring model have nothing to do with the cars performance.
