Question regarding Transmission problems
I just bought myself a new 03 TL-P and I knew of the transmission problems from ahead of time but i wanted to know something from those that have had failures....
With those people that have had failed transmissions, did u streptronic (or triptronic or whatever name u wanna call it) on the TL or Type S on a regular basis?
If you didnt use the triptronic system, did u drive the car hard?
(personally i really wanna see what the TL can really do but im still in the break-in period and it sucks... i hate not being able to drive against my friends A4 3.0 to see which is better... )
anyways, thanks in advance
(crossing fingers that i dont have one of those "bad" transmissions running under the hood otherwise id be wasting my time modding the car when ill have to keep dealing with the servicing)

well.. I dont know about others.. but I use sportshift and regular auto roughly equal amounts. I occasionally will do a spirited drive but for the most part, I leave well enough alone and cruise along or behind most of the traffic listening to my tunes.

From what I've read on the board, it has appears that driving habits, or use/non-use of sportshift, has little to do with the failures (at least the slipping->suddenly engaging problem).
If it's going to fail on you - it'll do it no matter how you drive. Usually this is at a fairly low mileage (i.e. less than 25k).

There have been very few, IF ANY tranny failures on 2002 and/or 2003 TL-P's. This is a telling fact!
I have not found ONE POST from any member who had a tranny failure on the TL-P (02-03)! Did I miss anyone?

I use the manual mode less than 10 percent of the time. Mostly in freeway traffic when I want to slow down slightly without having to use the brakes. I originaly took the TL in for a noise that turned out to be a front wheel bearing. I mentioned that once the tranny seemed to have down shifted a little hard. I was suprised to hear that they ordered a new transmission, mine had only 20000 miles on it. The noise was still there after the replacement, so they replaced the bearing the next week. I guess I didn't press them as to why they jumped to replace the tranny, since I had heard that there was some bad ones out there. I would expect this on my american cars but after years of trouble free Accords, I'm disappointed.
