How long does it take for the engagement?? I, as well as a few others on this site have had problems with there transmission. But mine just dropped completely, there was a perminant pause untill I got a new tranny installed. But what you are describeing does not sound normal to me. It sounds like you might have a small problem with it. If you are still under warranty you should just have acura check it out for you, if there is a problem then they will probibly just put a new tranny in the car cause the mechanics do not make that much $ off warranty work and it is pointless for them to get into it an figure out exactly what is wrong when they arent makeing $ off it. I think you should get it checked out.

Question

My 2001 Tl has 3400 miles on it and this has been the way the tranny has operated since day 1. Backing out of driveway, reverse engages instantaneously but drive takes 2 seconds or so to engage. I thought this was default behavior since I had and old Ford Thunderbird that had the same thing. If this is a real problem, I want to get it taken care of ASAP. Once engaged the tranny works fine.

I have the same problem too. I talked to Acura on Sat and have scheduled my first service this coming Friday. I described the situation to him and he said it was normal but he will have someone test it. I seen people post here that it is normal with Honda transmissions. I will let you know what happens on Friday.

Good thing the tranny is on the major powertrain warranty of 5yrs.
