Post Question about the TL

Hi, I'm a college student and I have to write a paper analyzing a magazine ad on the Acura TL. I was wondering if any of you could help me out by telling me why you chose to buy the TL. How do you feel about the appearance of the TL? What age groups do you think Acura is targeting?

Hi JulieL782, If I were you, I'd use the search feature over on the left for each subject you need info on. You will find LOTS of disscusions on several of those questions you asked.

I think Acura wants everyone to buy its car. I believe TL is mostly target the 25-40 age group. IMHO.

The reason I choose the TL is because of its reliability record. Being drive a BMW before, the reliability of the German vehicle is very questionable. The new 2002 style of the TL Type S is very good. It looks so much better, with so many improvement and the price is offering. The TL is best bang for the buck.

I chose to purchase my TL because of the following reasons: Appearance, Honda built (quality), resell value, price compared to other similar models, and the size of the car.
Obviously the appearance of the TL was appealing to me because it was one of the reasons I purchased the car.
I think Honda markets the TL to older folks 40+ (not that I am that old) who do not want to buy a Mercedes but want an affordable luxury sedan.
I wasn't even aware of all the possible upgrades available until after I purchased my car and stumbled upon this site.

Welcome!

Since you are new here.. let me just warn you right now... there are some people here who will give you a bit of a hard time becaues those subjects have been beat to death. You can do a search for the info you are looking for...

Not only that, from your handle, looks like you are a young female. Just watch out for these horndogs.

But to give some quick answers some of your questions.

1. Why did you choose the TL?

Value - Most bang for the buck. You get alot for the cost of the TL. Comfortable and roomy, and good past experience with Honda.

2. How do you feel about the appearance of the TL?

Sleek, underated guile luxury. Could use a bit more luxury/sporty looks like Lexus and BMW.

3. Age groups Acura is targeting?

I would say 30-40 group. I've often been told that I drive an old person's car.
With the introduciton of the TL-S, they are certianly going after the younger crowd.

-----

There are many many differing opinions here. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Cool

I got it because the gold matched my hair color and wardrobe most of the time. Also - as a female - I like the navigation feature. My husband likes it - because he is a techno geek. We debated between the TL and a Honda Accord with leather (and adding heated seats to it) - which was about 8k less (6k less that TL without Navi). But - the TL seemed to have a more comfortable ride, and looked a bit better. The TL also had Navi - so since we wanted Navi - we decided to pay extra and get the TL.
Inside features between the two cars were about the same. In fact - the Accord had better trunk and space in the back seat.
Also 25 more HP with the TL. Didn't want to spend the extra 2k just for 35 more HP for the S.

the reason I bought my TL certainly ISN'T the commercials (*yawn*).

It was researching and choosing the best value for the money. Plus my friend already had one so I knew all about it when I went to the dealership.

Hi,
I bought the TL because it looks nice and it has a good engine for the buck. also ... its has features that other cars in the price range dont have .... SS, HID lights. and not very many options most come w/ everything, and not very many things to raise the prices.

age group ... id have to say 25+ even though im still 19....

Best bang for the dollar compared to other luxury cars in similar price range. Was previously looking at Volvo S70, small BMWs, Infiniti I30t, found the 3.2TL the best overall value, fully loaded, great engine, Honda quality.

Just got mine about 2 weeks ago. Silver Y2k model..LOVE IT!!

It's really weird. I was reading a magazine ad, and the next thing I know I was driving home in a new TL. I kind of felt like I was under a trance or something.

Seriously, I was consulting at this company and the project manager took a bunch of us out to lunch one day in her '99 TL. I was very impressed with the car and made a mental note that when I was ready to get a new car, I should look at this one.

About a year later, I decided it was time to replace my car, and I remembered the Acura. I also looked at the Maxima (what was I thinking) and the ES300. I briefly considered the BMW 3 series which was too small, and the Mercedes C class which was just too blah. The TL was really an easy choice once I drove all the cars I was considering. The Lexus was nice, but it was more luxury than sporty. The only thing that was near as fun to drive as the TL was the Maxima 5 speed, but in the end I thought it was worth the extra couple grand for the legendary Acura reliability.

After having my TL for only a year, I traded it in on a TLS which I am totally thrilled with. I get depressed every time I have to get out of the car. I think I need therapy (do you think a shrink would meet with me in the car?)

1.) Combo of Value, Performance, reliability! It's a Honda!
2.) Didn't like it that much at first, but the more I look at it the more I like it. Esp. the the hood lines b/c its so arrow dynamic looking. Don't like the fact it has two pieces of plastic in place of wher the fog lights should be.
3.) Age group 30+, although alot of TL drivers here are younger than that.

Hmmmm, maybe you should just get your own and you'd be able to find out first hand why we love our car so much!
