Question about pulley

Hi to everyone,do you know which company makes the pulley for our TLs.How much is it?Is it hard to install? If you have it,do you really feel the improvement?and does it worth the money?

The only pulleys I know of for the TL are the aem power pulleys. A lot of the accord v6ers are having problems with them too so beware! Apparently, the pulleys are draining almost all of the power from the alternator so if you have a sound system and your headlights on then your car could stall at a stop. Some people have them and are just not installing the power steering pulley. I'd do a search and you can find out everything you need to know.

A couple members have had them and said they don't do anything for power gains. It probably isn't worth the money.

yeah, i wouldnt go with pulleys. There is like this myth that pulleys dont give power they take it. Unless, its on a heavily modified car that doesnt have many electrical components and does racing and whatnot. Dont do it, its not worth it. Especially if you have navi and a system with the headlights. Your alternator ewill hate you.

I've yet to dyno my car, but no problems with them at all.

I keep a close eye on system voltage via a cyberdyne digital voltage gauge, and it's always +14vdc or above. This is with all accessories on. Stock stereo system, no upgrades there.

They look nice, and work as intended. Butt dyno feels a bit of a difference.... better throttle response for sure.

I think the reason that some people have alternator power losses after installing pulleys is that they buy pulleys that are smaller than their OEM counterparts. If you replace the OEM pulleys with identically-sized replacements you should experience no alternator losses.

The whole idea of pulley replacements is to reduce the moments of inertia associated with the OEM pulleys. Accelerating and decelerating heavy pulleys suck power from the engine's output. The lower their moments of inertia, the more power is available to the wheels.

That being said, the moments of inertia of all the pulleys in the engine are minuscule compared to the mass of the car and the moments of inertia of the wheels. I think it's a waste of money.

Daverman, actually, you got it the other way around. The pulleys are larger, making the alternator turn slower, therefore, underdriving it. The power loss is very obvious on the Accord V6 because our alternator puts out only 85amps and is made by Delphi (American). The effect of AEM alternator pulley is so bad that the voltage drops below 12V when you turn on just the A/C and headlights. There are already several reports of people with bad stock alternators (no oversized pulley on). The alternator on AV6 is rather weak and crappy if you ask me since you guys I believe get 120/125amps alternators.

But overall, I still think it's not worth the investment. Several AV6 members took the alternator pulley off and reported no power difference at all....makes you wonder why one would risk killing the electrical system just to gain a tiny bit of power on a daily driven car. It's your choice though. Several guys here reported no problems with TL, so I think you should be safe.

The TL/CL gets a 105amp alternator. The Type-S versions get a 125amp alternator...they are more than sufficient to use with pulleys...85amp...dayum!! There's your problem right there.
