question about HID

My wife just got 03 TL
I'm thinking to get HID kit for the fog light.
I saw at ebay there have 2 kinds of bulb, 35 watts and 50 watts.
Do you think if I get the 50 watts bulb, will the fog light housing melt or get burn?
Or will the lense break?

HIDs are usually 35w if your planning on regular bulbs 55w is your best bet unless you wanna fry your harness

No what I'm sayin is that HIDs are usually 35w and use the ballast and inverter to step up the power for the HIDs. But if you plan on going with regular halogen bulbs it would be better to stay with 55w bulbs because there have been threads about ppls harness burning

Use the WATTAGE stated in the book for the light

You can find bulbs that use 35 watts, and make the light output of 55 watt bulbs- due to advances in science and technology

We are talking out the fog lights- not the ballast/ignitor powered- special systems for the main lights

I think he is looking to get an HID kit for his fogs, so he will have a ballast and ignitor powered system.

well the difference between hid and halogen are wattage and Price.

Not even in the same category IMHO.

35w for HID - requires ballast and ignitor.
55w is OEM

There are a lot more differences than that. Gas type, light output, looks just to name a few.

The Hid bulb there have 2 kinds, 35 watts and 50 watts.
They're both HID. bulb with ballast.
And for the fog light not the headlight.
I think I'm just gonna stay with 35 watts.
Cuz I have my truck both the headlight and the foglight are 35 watts.
So is my bike.
I'm just wondering if I can go with the 50 watts on the fog light on the TL.
I saw on ebay, HID kit with 50 watts bulb. suppose to be alot brighter. has about 4500 lumens of lights for the 5000K color

The watts of the bulb should have nothing to do with the light output. With HID kits the color and light output is solely based on the temperature of the bulb:

4300k - Off white / stock (most light output)
6000k - More blue (less light output)
8000k - Even more blue / border line purple (even less light output)
10000k ....

Some people get 4000K bulbs for the fogs which come out being more yellow then stock. Also remember to make sure you get a plug and play kit that is for a 9006 bulb.

Don't believe the hype of "brighter" bulbs. Many bulbs that draw too much power will burn out easier, or melt, or will melt the housings.
