question about filters

Before anyone gets on me about not searching, I did search, and I ended up more confused than I started off...I'm needing to replace the air filter in my car and I know that I need the K&N 332133 filter. however, I don't know how to change it and I was looking to see if there were any instructions on the forum. I couldn't find any at all, so I was wondering if someone could help me? There's just too many filters on this car lol

sorry guys just a little today thanks

Check the manual for the car. Alot of people don't look at it, but it tells how to do alot of self-maintenence. I don't know it off the top of my head but I know it tells how to replace it.

While were on this subject...how often and how should I be cleaning my CAI filter?

hmm, I just got my oil changed yesterday at 76,6xx miles. They changed my oil and air filter. $55 total. Is that good or no? At first it was $30, and they said they were going to change my oil to Regular. So I asked how much it would be to change it to synthetic, and it was $55. So they drained my oil and changed it to synthetic, I don`t know what oiil the previous owner was using, but I was getting horrible gas mileage. I`m hoping from changing to synthetic it`ll save me gas mileage as the guy that changed my oil said, and I`m hoping the new air filter would help out. Is it normal that he had to pour in 6 bottle of Mobil 1 Synthetic oil in there?

instructions... i just got this done 2 weeks ago.
those 4 screws might be really tough to take off the first time, so if the screwdriver isnt strong enough juse a twist-wrench-type of tool (not sure what they are called) i think its the 8mm type.

the stock filter should look like this:

and this is the K&N replacement filter (its a lot thinner than stock)

if you dont get it pm or reply and ill try to explain better.

Well I have a CAI and I was wondering about the CAI filter...Mine looks pretty awful I read something about K&N Xstream filters for that use or something, any insight and part numbers on this? Could really find anything as far as part numbers for it. I'm guessing the K&N drop in 332133 filter is for the stock air intake? Told you guys i was confused earlier

feeling slightly stupid now

if you have the cai you dont need to replace teh filter at all. all you do is get teh K&N filter cleaing kit, take te filter off and clean it per teh instructions on the kit. i cleaned mine every 15-20k

subtledreamer I'm sorry! It would have been a great guide if I wasn't so stupid sometimes .... and I'm slowly getting uncofused. So fsttyms I can just take off the filter on the end of my CAI and clean it off using the K&N thing? Can I get to the filter through the wheel well or do I need to take off the front bumper? Or can I do it without doing either?!

yes if you have a aem cai all you have to do is take the filter off and clean it with a K&N filter charger cleaning kit. to get to it you can do both ways. i prefer taking the bumper off (takes about the same amount of time as going in thru the wheel well and its easier to actually get to the filter. as for instructions CLICK HERE

keep in mind alleyes that the process of cleaning drying and oiling can take all day depending on drying conditions. you cant oil a wet filter so you have to let it dry completely.
