Q. regarding gas(not what ur thinkin)

This isn't a question on the tls fuel economy, or what octane to use. It's actually on the fuel capacity. I've read the manual and it says that we have a 17.2gal tank capacity. However I drove the car today down to the red line and gas light came on. Drove about 5 more miles and filled up. The thing is it only took 13.9 gal to fill up. Isn't the light coming on mean that theres only 1 gal left, or am I wrong? If it is 1 gal, I guess we don't have a 17.2 gal capacity, cause 14+1=15 in my book!

when the light comes on we have 3 gallons left before the tank goes dry.

If the TL is anything like my buddy's Maxima, don't count on using those last 3 gallons. He ran out of gas once, and was still only able to put in a few gallons less than the tank's full capacity. Supposedly, the last few gallons can not be used, to prevent any sludge from being sucked up into the engine. I'd suggest filling up when the light comes on.

I drove once after the red light some 50-60 HW miles and had no problem.... But the worries that I would stall at the HW was killing me

The gauge in our cars is EXTREMELY conservative., and your experience is consistant with mine.

I have on occasion driven it well past the light being on. The most gas I've put in without actually running out has been 16 gals.

Same here. I would be $hitting bricks and praying at the same time while driving hoping that it doesn't run out of gas.
I also agree that our fuel light comes on way too early. I guess it's good too because then we know we will never be stranded.

I know that in my CL-S I could go at least 60-80km's from the time the light went on until I was getting really close to empty...
our tanks are 65L and I once put in 64.7L...

On some HW, it's usual that for 30-40 miles stretch there will be no GAS station at all, zero, none, nada!

If you get 1 Galon left and the redlight came on, you are Facked!

So, 3 Galons will get you some 60-75 miles and get you out of trouble.

Good engineering, Acura!

There have been quite a few post on here about this since I have been on here. The Low-Fuel Warning Light will come on as said & should have about 3 Gals in tank when you first see the Warning.
I have had the warning light come on about 7 times since I got the carabout 2yrs ago. Each time this has happen I fill up & the tank takes about 14 to15 Gals. Unlike the 2 Accords I had in the 90s & my 80 Prelude the fuel light does not blink on & off.
The TL light will come on & stay on untill you put gas in.

Depending on how much gas is left in the tank and how hard you drive in the twisties, the low-fuel light can go on and off...

FWIW--I've run the gas tank dry (not on my TL-S, though); I did it on my Tahoe and was able to confirm that the gas tank does indeed hold 30 gallons.

Since we're talking about TL-S fuel capacities and such, maybe someone should start a thread as to what was the most miles you squeezed out of a TL-S tank of gas? I'll start--459 miles...

i have had the bottom edge of the needle go slightly below the bottom edge of the "red" empty line.

has anyone's needle touched any part of the "E" before refueling?
