Purchasing Extended Warranty?

I have a 3 year old 2000 TL with only 31,000 miles on it. I really want and need to keep this car for a long time. In regards to extended warranties what do you all feel is best...

1. Pay $1200-1300 for the Acura extended warranty (to 7 years with 70-100k mileage depending on price) in the last year of my current warranty and have the benefit of enjoying all the same warranty terms (ie. loaner cars, great service from my dealer which I am very happy with, no doubt if it is broke it will get fixed etc.)

2. Buy an aftermarket warranty like that from Warranty Gold (http://www.warrantygold.com) which is less money, is highly recommended and would allow me to still get service from my dealer (although with loaner car benefits etc.) and the various warranty time terms start from when you buy the policy, NOT when you bought the car. I.E. a 7 year, 100k warranty bought today will cover my car till it is TEN YEARS OLD! or has 100k which likely will take my in reality 7-9 years of real life of the car.

Thoughts?

get a detailed list of what each covers and if there is an associated deductible with each. if they're equal, I'd go with the 3rd party warrenty since that you can also take to other repair shops

Please buy from a reputable warranty place. Also, call up Acura or Acura TLC program and ask them what they recommend. I have purchased warranties before, and when the item was broken, the warranty outfit would not pay for it.

Ask also, how long is the warranty place been in business.

i have looked into warrantygold.com, and from what i have seen and read they are very reputable. i know one person who had a pretty extensive repair to his engine and it was covered 100% with no question or haggling at all.

thing is, you can haggle with acura with the price too.

give them the competitors price and i'm sure they'll match it.

Ditto to that. My Acura dealer matched the price from three aftermarket competitors, including my car insurance company. If you have Navi I would highly reccommend buying an extended warranty - just think what happens when those electronics go. Also, some aftermarket waranty companies do not cover electronics - read carefully...
