Protect against dings with a car cover?

I just got a new job that is going to require that I park in a public parking structure all day. I was just wondering if anyone has had any luck protecting against door dings by using a thick car cover like the one I found here. http://www.alcomfg.com/store/wolf/custom.html I have a few rock chips from the highway but just thinking about all the potential door dings and dents gives me the chills

You can get one of the many door guard products that dealers use to protect their stock. An example is http://www.no-ding.com. Do a web search for "door guard" or "ding guard" and you'll find all kinds of products. There are some that are really light and attach using magnetic strips.

I have a cover from California car covers and i think it would do a good job to protect from door dings. I just got it to cover my car in the garage because the cats like to slide down the hood and stuff and the cover def. stopped their claws from scratching. Another thing to consider is that most door dings (atleast on my car) arent really dings they are just scratches from other car doors. A cover would prevent scratches as well as light dings.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

daverman, I really liked the price on the ding guard but am concerned that it might not protect enough area. Say if a SUV or van parks next to my vehicle, it would be too low in relation to their door. I looked at some other similar products and they all seem to cover about the same space...

1StGenCL, Which cover did you get? I am leaning towards the Stormweave because that seems to be the most protective of all the covers. Kinda spendy though when you add in an anti-theft cable and a storage bag. But, then again, cheaper than the paintless dent guy coming out or worse, a b/f shop.

Gonna have to dwell on this some more...

Well since it was just in my garage i got the dust top cover. I am very happy with it. I really wish i got the storm weave now because i have a covered spot at my apt at school but the sprinkler still gets it Anyway my neighbor had three porsches and he swore by these covers. He said they were the best company so i went with them and was very happy. It isnt the thickest (dust top) but a bike fell on it and didnt do any damage so i would think if you went with the stormweave (thicker im sure) you would be ok as far as light door contact.
