prospective TL

Hey friends,

I'm a Nissan guy, looking at a '99 TL...actually two of them.
one's got 112K mi for $8,500.
the 2nd has 135k for $8,000 - but he's including a bunch of fancies with it (custom rims, bose system, etc)

the difference between the two is debatable, but i'm more interested in the general idea of buying a used model past the 100k warrantee period.

does anyone have any thoughts?

I strongly advise you look elsewhere. The risk of transmission problems is very real, and both cars are past warranty in mileage and almost in time. They can quickly become $11-12k cars after a transmission failure.

all im saying is, the 02-06 TLS LOOK MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER !!! maybe look into those

99-01 - worst look =P
02-03 - i think this is best of all (IMO)
04-06 - looks good

but obviously it would cost more

At least get a 2000, since they were upgraded to 5-speed tranny and I believe that's when side airbags came into the picture. The alarm confirm changed from a horn chirp to a nice high-tech beep. The font on the dials changed from 99 to 00. I say keep looking.

Why is the post becomming a debate? This is a Nissan guy who is prepared to jump aboard the Acura scene. Whatever he gets will be a bonus compared to a Nissan.
BTW, I think the 99 - 01 is better than the 02+ model And the 99 tranny has a lower rate of failure than the 2000+ Tranny. Not perfect, but hey, they gotta keep Transmission places in business right?

Many thanks for your thoughts, guys.

I get what you all are saying. a more recent model would certainly be up my alley, if I could afford it. But the fact of the matter is my budget tops out at the $8,000 - $9,000 range anyway.

If it was a unnanimous for the TL, I probably would have pressed it, but your conflicting reports, together with the solid '99 Altima i found for $5,000 (less, i'm sure, after the obligatory haggling) has me backing off the TL idea. My cousin's got a '99 that he loves, and that was my temptation, but it just doesn't fit right now.

I do appriciate the love on the post replies though. But i guess i'm a Nissan guy at heart. I've had my sentra for 10 years and mama has leased a new Max every 2 or 3 years since '94.

Thanks again.
...and try to be nice to each other!

I bought my 99TL Navi in mint condition in Sept. 05 with less than 39,000 on it for $11,000. Can't imagine spending 8-9k for one with that mileage. Seek and yea shall find. Took me 6 months to find one in great shape with low miles. All the stealerships and used car lots wanted a premium for em. Bought mine from a private owner. I know I got a great deal. Car was mint, garaged and babied by an 80 yr old guy.
