Proposed gear ratios for the 5-speed tranny
Current gear ratios for the TLS (stats taken from this site)
1st - 2.563
2nd - 1.552
3rd - 1.021
4th - 0.653
5th - 0.470
% Difference between current gear setup
1st to 2nd - 65.14%
2nd to 3rd - 52.01%
3rd to 4th - 56.36%
4th to 5th - 38.94%
Proposed gear ratios (what i would of liked them to be)
1st - 2.563
2nd - 1.677
3rd - 1.098
4th - 0.718
5th - 0.470
% Difference between proposed gear setup
52.82% all across the board
Too bad the % jump between the gears werent a little bit more uniform. I was doing a lil math, and with these proposed gear ratios, it should allows us to accelerate at a more constant rate all the way to the 5th gear by sacrificing a lil fuel efficiency during city driving.
I'm sure at this setup, we might be able to compete with the 5-series BMW a bit better.
Ever notice the difference between the 2nd to 3rd jump vs the 3rd to 4th jump? I guess the 4% difference makes that much of a impact, since the 56.35% jump from 3rd to 4th really hurts us bad
Too bad there wasnt an easy way to switch the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear around.
Any opinions?
P.S. If we only had a 6 speed tranny, we could then get away with a 41.39% gear difference all across the board. This would allow us to keep the original 1st gear ratio and have the proposed 6th gear equalling the current 5th gear ratio. DAMN that would be fast and fuel efficient too!

Hey SSMAN66.
With all the modifying you do yourself. Do you happen to know if there is any one out there that offers different gearing for the 3.2 tranny?

what i wonder is if some company like Level 10 would be able to change the gearing or just drop in a whole new set of gears. i'm sure its doable, just wonder how much it would cost.
