Problem with Headers touching Oil Pan?

Just wondering if its something to be concerned about. My Megan downpipe jus slightly rubs the oil pan as i kno others have, but is it gonna be a problem in the long run?

I think I know exactly what you are talking about. Right next to the Y pipe it just slightly touches. I don't think it will be a problem. There is a slight amount of flex that your headers have so you should be cool. BTW I just installed my AW headers and I had to shave off an extra piece of my tranny casing to make them fit where the O2 sensor plugs in. Just a quick note. glad I didn't do It myself!

I have that problem too. I've been driving for about 2 months now, and nothing bad has happened yet. I'm driving 600 miles to Florida in about an hour, so I guess that'll be the real test.

technically the oil pan is bolted to the engine, which the headers are bolted to. Even though the headers have a flex pipe, the vibrations that the headers are getting from the engine will be the same vibrations the oil pan is recieving. If the headers were bouncing off a stationary part of the car, like the frame or drive train, it would be much worse...

I think you'll be ok with the headers touching, however if you have your recipt for the headers, Megan is honouring any misfitment issues, I'd speak to them if you're really that concerned.

In the long run, you dont know what repetitive rubbing like that can do. It will cause wear, how bad is anyones guess. Id try and get it fixed if possible.

If the oil pan gasket starts leaking, will the engine oil drip onto the super-hot header and start a fire ?

Eventually, it's either going to rub through the header or the oil pan.

actually, ive talked to a mechanic about this. he told me the header will get damaged overtime but not the oil pan. The oil pan is real strong. My very first set rubbed for about two months, i took it off and not even the header was damaged.

Exactly, the Fatigue Factor. If any object is designed to "not" touch anything during operation but "is" touching, will definitely fatigue and shorten the life of the object. I wonder if it contributes to excessive heat buildup and premature oil life,...etc.

the main reason you wouldnt want it touching the oil pan is the excess heat that will transfer into the oil.
