Unhappy Probably Dumb Q about brake rotor replacement

Hey all,

I need to do the obvious and replace the pads and rotors on my 99TL. I have followed previous posts on the subject and went to TireRack.com for the parts. I do not see any REAR replacement rotors...only the front. Do we have to change out the rear rotor or what???

Please help

Thanks in advance,
The AXEMAN cometh...

I would not mind getting them from this site however it seems that all they have are slotted and x-drilled rotors. I dont need anything fancy for my car so I am looking for the cheapest alternative other then just turning the original rotors on my car. BTW, I have 92k on my original brakes and pads
I know that TireRack was running the fronts for 50 per rotor. That was the price point that I was trying to keep.

Lastly, NE1 here know of a good shop that I could take my car for service in Northern Virginia. I REFUSE to take it to any dealer for the brakes and timing belt replacement

I went to "Foreign Auto Parts" and bought pads and rotors all the way around for $220. The rotors in the rear are slighty more than the front because they also act like a brake drum for the ebrake. Maybe $55-60 each.

How the heck did you get 90k miles on the original front rotors? Maybe I could understand it from the rears, because the fronts do most of the work. Does you car ever exceed speeds of 10MPH? or do you typically drive on the highway non-stop for 300-400 miles at a clip? Otherwise i am baffled by your amazing feat. :wow:

Talking

I cant believe it either. I will tell you that I typically leave for work pretty early in the morning thus I have very little if any traffic for the 40 mile commute each way. I will also tell you that the brakes are terrible at this point...whenever I 'slightly' touch the brake pedal, my steering while shimmeys terribly :-)

Thanks for the info. I will try that site.

Stay tuned...

Q for mikem re: foreign auto parts

mike,
I went to the foreignautoparts.com site and was quoted 358.04 for pads and rotors all the way around for my 99. How did you manage 220 for yourself??
I would love to keep it below 250 for the parts. I still have to pay someone labor for the install. I dont do brakes :-)

What site or number quoted your 220?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

92k miles on original rotors :wow:, I'm on my fourth pair of rotors with only 100k miles. I just drive too fast and crazy

I went to foreign auto parts in Plainville MA and the front rotors were $80 for the Pair the rear ~ 110 and pads were roughly $20-25 each set. My initial estimate was off but I do have the receipt at home. So closer to 250-260. I'll check at home later. Still not a bad deal for all new metal around the car. I know I paid a little more because I decided to by the all the hardware for the rear like the plates and stuff that usually get reused. I was having issues some weird noise when coming to a complete stop. Problem has been solved. Some idiot caked that coppery no seize compund all over the pad backs so as they wore down that crap was guming up the pad surface and causing it to get sticky when hot.

not a problem

Are you having them shipped? That will probably kill the good price....

I have to ship them but you have to remember that the 358 price was not including shipping as well. I am figuring about 50 bux for s/h on the parts. That still brings it closer to the price point I wanted to stick to.

I just dont want to invest too much in a car that is approaching 100k. I figure if I can get another couple of years or to around 150k I can convince my wife that it is time to go out and get the new 350Z convertible

Thanks again,
axe
