Pricing on a 2002 TL Type S?

I wanted to ask the members here if this is a good deal (with the given information). 02 tl type s, 160K mileage, good-great interior/exterior, clean title, original tranny for $5000. Nothing is missing except the 3.2 tl emblem. Only modification I seen from pictures is a full lip kit. I will be checking it this weekend at the dealership.

the original tranny fact would worry me but the price seems right. you could probably get it for even lower.

dealership? what kind of trans warranty will they give you

Is there visual or paper proof of the dreaded 105 service being done? timing belt water pump- --extras needing to be done: valve adjustment- egr cleaning- replace thermostat and all radiator hoses
and all the fluids should have been flushed a few times by this mileage

a private mechanic can tell if the car is decent--50 bucks to look at the brake system and hidden crash damage or repairs- done poorly or well

`acura care` can tell you if its current on all the recalls 1 800 382 2238 x5,,
have VIN and tell them doing a `pre-buy history ck`
ask what city it was sold in, any other cities it was registered in by owner or other method

finally- ck our member cars for sale section

A tranny replacement job can also run up to about the same price.

a local shop trans rebuild averages 2500 USD

the opinion of many here: dont buy a gen2 now-- without some major good trans warranty!
Even if this one lasted 160--its at the end of normal clutch life = rebuild time

much as I love my TL, a good toyota or honda is a better option for those on a tight budget and maitenance planning $$

if its not a type S and the rear tl badge is missing -chances are its been in a minor rear accident and that wasnt replaced

while type S badges are often stolen for use on honda racers

Will pass on this car. Checked it out today and had a mechanic looked at it. Tranny leak and oil pan leak. Headlights weren't working either. I called Acura care and they said it had one record of tranny being replaced at 67k, so no not the og tranny. Thanks for your advice. What is a 105 service though?

105,000 mile service is usually timing belt, water pump, some other stuff. Can be very costly. My idiot self took it to the Acura dealer and ended up with a $1200 bill. It can be done for much cheaper than that at a private shop or a Honda dealership.
