my mom has a Landcruiser with that big black metal grill on the front end. its starting to rust so im thinking about repainting it. but my question is what sand paper should i use to remove all the rust and the black paint thats on it now and which sandpaper to prep it before i spraypaint it? i just looked at it and this grill is solid.
thanks in advance.

Depending on how much of the rust has eaten away the metal, i'd take off all the rust with 220-400grit prep for primer with 400 grit.. primer the rust and wet sand it with 600-1000grit and paint.
Use what ever grit it takes to get rid of the rust and flaking paint. Id try to start out with something like 220, and if that doesnt do it go heavier. As you work work your way up till you have the surface smooth, then prime and sand (320-400 then) to help fill and remove any last sand scratches. Take your time to make sure every thing is smooth or it will show.
