Premature Tranny Failure Symptons...

I have read plenty of threads about the trannies going out on many TL-P or -S. I recently just purchased a 01 TL-P, and it has about 43000 miles on it. I wish I had known this is the case for this model of car, prior to purchase.

Anyway, I would like to know what I can expect to hear out of the tranny in my car as signs of failure.

I only have a few more thousands of miles (it seems) to go, before I am part of the "club".....

Please advise...

You can expect a number of symptoms.

Harder than normal up or down shifts, or slipping when shifting from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th.

Also, do you know when the last tranny fluid service was done? If your not sure, you can have the dealer check the tranny fluid for burning and or trash in it.

my 02 tl-s is getting its first tranny today at 77,147 it started slipping from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th and it had a nasty stall out sometimes (harder than my 800 hp prostreet challenger it seemed sometimes ) dealer is replaceing it with no problems and they gave me a "loan a wreck" 02 standard tl (not much power compared to my tl-s and i dont like the ride quality but it runs and drives so oh well ) the problem started last week and i was able to put about 500 miles on it without a compleate failure .
i also had a whinning noise from the trans that was quite noticeable as well .

Go to the dealer and make sure you're covered with the extended powertrain warranty. All you need is the VIN. Don't worry about the tranny, just drive and enjoy the car.
