premature rear brake pads wear
wondering how long your rear oem brake pads lasted? mine only lasted 40k miles while the fronts were good for almost 60k. I have 62k miles now and the rears have started to squeal again. there is a thread on TSX 2G forum about a lawsuit for premature rear brake pad wear, i was thinking maybe our cars suffer from the same problem? i have always had oem rear pads serviced at dealer.

front should wear out nearly twice as fast as rears- they do 70% of the braking forece and are much larger for a reason
I would expect 60+ rear, 40kmiles front... and I use my brakes ~
note = when pads get to 4mm remaining, thats time to replace- the minimum thickness is 2mm and the pads dont work as well- dont dissapate heat and create brake torque like they used to in those last 2mm of useable pad
rears- even if oe= they may have used the wrong pads
Ones for the RL are listed in many aftermarket books as fitting us
Well--they `fit` the bracket ok BUT have an extra tab on the back of the inner sides pad.
that `center tab` hits the piston first and the pad deploys crooked- only half of it makes contact with the rotor, wearing on the pad at a severe angle
you can visual for this prob by looking at the rotors inner side
If half its width is rusty and half shiny, you have the problem
get some quality rotors and pads for real braking!
Flush brake fluid if not done in last 2 years,,good to do every year,
max 3 years between full changes= protects caliper seals from fluid contamination via hygroscopic action (see wiki for explanation)

i used oem rotors and pads all its life for the rear. my first front brake job, i replaced with brembo blanks and akebano ceramics. my rear oem pads have less than 4mm at the moment. my front are at 10mm. This would be my second time replacing the rear, and i only replaced the front once all its life. i had the dealer check lubrication, possible brake drag, sticking pistons or anything but they said it's all ok :\

the thing I didnt see was history of brake fluid change??
you would be surprised the number or rear caliper probs from that,,and fronts
EVERY YEAR is book suggestion = with a 3 year between fluid flush MAX
if the fronts are weak- the rears take up the extra effort.. and the small size of them in comparison- will be gone fast
things can look fine on the outside, tech not looking for where your problem is
or doesnt care to find it,,
You come in replacing parts more often= is NEVER an problem for them!
10mm front pads- they must be brand new- 10 is most makers max size, and what you can get to fit inside the fully retracted calipers!
remember 4mm pad is low performance from there to 2, when the noise maker arm hits rotor- thats change brakes today signal
