Power steering grunt when starting. Normal?

Since I got my 02 TL-S certified used 6 months ago I have noticed on a cold startup mostly the power steering will grunt a couple times. I believe it to be a power steering thing because usually it sounds when I turn the wheels for the first time after startup. I have a feeling this might be normal but I wanted to make sure this happens to others as well. Thanks for any input!

Actually, I believe this is the ABS/VSA self check. If you have the TL-S it will make two groaning sounds, and if you have the base TL it should only make one groan. This only happens when driving away after startup...

You have to be moving for any self-tests. He didn't specify.

Yes it grunts twice right after I turn the wheels for the first time after startup. It is the TL-S

ya its ur abs selioniods(sp?) workin, i think it tests at 5 mph. i belive i may be able to hear this sound come on a second time when u slam on ur brakes and activate the abs.

p.s. test it out and drive the car under 5 mph or somthin and see if u hear the buzzin sound

I thought ABS tests every time you start? That's the way it is in mine, I believe.

Mine seems to do it once you start going forward it does 1 or 2 grunts then never does it again until you start the car again.

ya i think it happens after u hit over 5 mph after EVERY start.... actually, im pretty sure of that, just try it out. drive under 5 mph after startin ur car (if u can lol) and then go above 5 mph and the sound should go off.

p.s. happens to me everytime i back outta the driveway.... but ya ur car is perfetly fine.
