Power Steering Fluid Change @ 100K???
Power Steering Fluid Change @ 100K???
At around 132K, does anyone perform the power steering fluid changed? It is not part of the maintenance schedule, but I still have to flush the fluid out... What do you think?
It is good idea to do it. You will feel a big diff in smoothness of the steering wheel. You can do it the right way or do it the easy way, and either way is better then not doing it.
easy way is to siphon out the reservoir, start engine, do some turning, then repeat another two times. each time you will need a bottle from honda, so you will need 3 of those small bottles.

I mean siphon out the reservoir, refill it, then start engine....

there is a thread or diy on this
you dont add fluid as its draining out!!
just the res is not enough~
this is direct method from acura-see owner book- it wont hurt the pump
place cardboard under front wheels to reduce friction
return line with extra hose added over it for length - and hose clamped, so it stays on, moves old fluid into used oil jug
start engine and turn wheels full lock to lock- pushing out the fluid in the rack
When empty- reconnect return hose and refill res- start engine- turn wheels and add fluid as needed
If old fluid was ok condition you are done
In never done before- repeat the drain and push out again
Now fill it again- turning wheels to draw fluid into rack and burp out air bubbles
repeat again if needed
Fluid should be changed at 60kmiles, and every 60 after that but its rarely done, then rack seals leak or pump fails
Most who flush and refill report improved steering feel and response

note
the brake fluid needs to be flushed every year
ps fluid every 60kmiles 3-4 years
coolant, acura says up to 7 years/105 on oe coolant then 5 years after that
but I go with 4-5 years and change it to be safe
It does lose efficiency- just as all these fluids do as they age
